Post by seneca »

Hey guys,
Alright I have to change doors on my car but the problem...different keys! Would it be a hard task to switch the locks from one door to another?...or even change the whole handle/lock configuration???? Any info would help guys! Also is it hard to change glass from one door to another??? (ones tinted and ones not) :)
Thx Guys,

Taking the handle/lock assembly off is simple. Just remove the interior panel from the door and look for the 3-4 nuts that hold the handle on.

Hmmm, what exactly is the problem? Does your old door's lock not work and you dont have the key for the new door so you have to put the old lock on the new door?

If this is the case, how does the key work when you try to turn it in the lock? Does it not move and feel like key will break? Is it sticky? Or does it move freely but not oppen?

If its the first or second answer, you either have a badly worn key (happened to me and my hatch) or you need to get some light oil and lube the hell out of it. Try the 2nd idea before the first if its the case.

If it is the last answer, your tumbler is worn to nothing. To test if its this, take a car key not from that car, that will fit in the hole and see if it turns. If it does...you either have to get a new lock keyed or a new set of keys and locks for that door alone.

In the end, unless you need ot lube the lock, sounds like you will need the help of a Lock Smith. Good Luck.

Oh, and to remove the door glass, here are step by step instructions.

1. Lower door glass all the way, and then remove door panel.
2. Peel off the door screen (in one piece so it can be reused)
3. Move the window in a position so the door glass instalation bolts can be accessed
4. Remove Instalation Bolts
5. Pull glass out of0the top of the door.
6. And if you need the regulator, unbolt it and pull it out of the door aswell.

I think you might have I problem like what I had on my GS. There is a little cover that pushes out of the way when you insert the key. On one side of my car it the key wouldn't go in because that part wouldn't move out of the way. I took a small pair of pliers and removed it, now the key goes in fine and the lock works.
