PRM intake
2 Questions
-I know you can have that on the DOHC 4 cyl. but will it fit my SOHC ?
-On their website (http://www.prmracing.com), they sale the pro kit and the universal kit. Does the pro kit only have esthetic add on?
------------------
Brainless
93 Red RS
geocities.com/j_micho (last update 30/07/2001)

Brainless, i'm in tha same boat as you- i've been told by many, (including AutoZone reps.) that our 4cyl.'s are too cramped-not enough space-one guy said the MAF is too big. I think its definitely possible to fit.
Anyone care to clear this up for us?

------------------
'92BlackBeauty

Re: PRM intake
Is this cold intake really worth it? Wont the cars computer fix itself back ? Does the cold air only come when moving? Like if Im parked for a while in traffic and then get into an open road wont the hot air from the engine still be in the picture? And when people place the filter down into the fender well, ? Do they make a hole in the front apron, or just leave the filter in the "pocket" where the black box use to be?
As you can tell I know little about this product. What makes it different from a K& N cone filter at the end of the Mas sensor?
Could I get an adapter and hook up a cone filter into the pocket in the fender well and have it do the same thing as the PRM cold air intake??
Re: PRM intake
well- if you just adapt a K&N onto the MAF with no shield, or RAM, its not really a cold air intake. The PRM is designed to pick up the low-pressured air from under the car that is fast-moving(hence, it is COLD). What I am going to do with my prm is route fresh air to the prm through a flexible aluminum hose by cutting a hole in the left front bumper.
You can do the same thing with just the k&N filter, but as u said, when u stop for short periods of time, the "heat soak" effect takes toll on the air. I hav'nt got my prm yet, but from what i hear, its one of the best mods out there. Heat shield, great filter, all the hardware, what more could ya ask for?
------------------
'92BlackBeauty

Re: PRM intake
I agree with MSfreek. PRM intake and ducting from the bumper is the way to go. Cost effective also.

Re: PRM intake
According to Yoda himself, (Vaughn), there's a better place to duct to. He says because of the pressure areas on the front of the MX, just behind the front bottom of the bumper, angled at the road and backwards a little toward the rear of the car, you should get more ram air effect than just going direct, through the bumper. I have't had a chance to test this, but I believe him and for some reason, if you think about it, it kinda makes sense. As for the cramped engine compartment in the 4cyl, try the 6! I will attest to the fact that the PRM fits great in it and works wonders. milage and HP and torque increases. What's better than that?
mason
MX3SE

hmmm....angled which way to the road? And backwards how?? Does it create a vacuum or what?
------------------
'92BlackBeauty

Re: PRM intake
Well, picture this... You've got your PRM in there right. Well now route yourself a duct down and up front or whatever but don't go through the bumper cover, and make it so the duct is directly facing the road. Now grab the duct and angle it so that rather than being direct at the road, it's pointing slightly back towards the back of the car. That make any sense? I'm not sure how Vaughn came up with this but for some reason I think he knows the pressure areas on the MX3. (go figure huh I think it has to do with how the air hits the bottom of the "bumper" and goes up under the car which is supposedly more pressurized than going direct through the bumper or using the pressurized air in the fender well. I think it's worth a try at least, all you'd be out is some ducting and if it didn't work, you could still cut up your "bumper".
mason
MX3SE

Re: PRM intake
NP I dunno if this would yeild the exact same thing but to test it against a direct ram-air setup I'd figure you could remove a headlight and run a duct to it. Then you could compare both ram air setups without having to cut up the bumper.
------------------
mason
MX3SE
ICQ#44771740
masonholmes@hotmail.com
