Re: sponsorship?
I am. Look for the Amazing Technicolor ZE thread.
I am sponsored by SiN Customs. They do airbrush, powdercoating etc. I was sponsored by accident. I posted some pics of some work I was doing and Eric McBain contacted me with his offer.
He's doing custom painting for me at cost....which means I'm paying for materials used but labour is free. In exchange for some sdvertising, which so far is strictly word of mouth. I agreed to allow him to paint his logo on my rad support however the exterior of my car stays clean (ie. NO STICKERS)
some places insist you attend X number of shows per month and you lose some control of your vehicle or whatever. It is possible to find your own sponsors and work out deals on your own....I just got lucky.
I am also trying to hammer out a deal with a local metal fabrication shop to diamond plate my interior at cost....but getting sponsored by a non-auto-specific company to do custom auto work is tricky.

Re: sponsorship?
and usually, sponsorships arrive after a car is completed. showing a company the work youve done...prooving yourself. if they went off the words of what you wanted to do, theyd loose money.
or like darren, you got some skillz and you get lucky.

Re: sponsorship?
Im sponsored as well. The company I am sponsored by is called Liquid Reflections.
They do custom body/paint fabrication, ect.
I got sponsored just because I went to the company and asked if they would teach me, and in return I'll work for free ok weekends. He agreed, then offered me a sponsorship.

Re: sponsorship?
me and a few of my buddys started a car team last summer and now were sponsered by 3 different places, a place that does chrome plating and polished alluminum, a place that does custom vinyl decals, and a shop that sells body kits and all that stuff, we were aproached by all 3 places while we were at car shows and stuff.
