Neon Spark Plug Wires

Post by Nottahonda »

Would anyone be interested in neon spark plug wires for their MX-3? I don't know if everyone knows how neon works, but it's actually a gas that is ignited by electricity. Anyway, these wires are awesome. They use the electricity sent through the plug wires to fire off the neon, so everytime the cylinder fires, it lights up. My dad had them on his '35 Ford and I was amazed. I asked him why I hadn't seen more of them and he didn't really have a good reply. Anyway, maybe if there is enough demand I could get him off his arse to make some to sell. Just an idea!

Do they cause any significant amounts of current draw from your car's ignition?

Could you actually see individual on/off cycles for the neon? It seems to me that with the engine running the spark plugs would be sparking faster than the eye could pick up, so it would just seem like a constant neon glow. That is the same way that flourecent lights work, they are actually strobing but you can't tell.

You're right, similar ones are popular on choppers. There is no power loss, but as I started thinking about it, the rpm's of the mx-3 may be too high to make it look cool, unless u were just idling.

Well I should just close this until I put some on my car. I would imagine that at nite, some of the light may filter to the ground, but mostly it would look cool for anyone with scoops or vents or... like I want to do, a plexiglass hood.
I'll post again with pics and more info when I get them in.

Well, you'd have to have one of those clear plexiglass hoods made, wouldn't you?

not nessaccarily if u had a scoop or a vent (a real on that actually goes through the hood) you would be able to see it but a clear hood is also a good idea but the thing is most people use there cars alot so the motor doesnt look good after a while with a clear hood unless u out there keepin it clean

I don't know the $$$ exactly, but it's not for the faint of wallet. I'll post again once I get more info. Thanks for your input.

My mistake, here and I thought this was an Appearance forum. And NO I am NOT A HONDA man... hence the name. Actually, exactly the opposite. So before you start your piddly slams about fast and furious crap, do your research.
