Re: Need some ideas for Projector headlights.

Post by Taras »

Wow, lots of discussion during my absence. Just came back from Europe. Got E-Code Philips Vision Plus H4 bulbs for my JDM Mx-3 lights. What a difference. The lights in general in Europe are much more superior to out DOT ones. At night you can actually see. This brings me to the point of the lights development that this thread is for. I think that the most important part here is being able to see at night. We have the worst lights OEM. The DOT beam pattern does not help, but the 9004 bulbs producing 700lm in low beam are the worst ever. Please lets forget carbon fibre, Angel-eyes, extra turn signals, etc, etc. Maybe the important part here is having good quality night lighting in as a primary reason. One can add Angel-eyes and extra turn signals if so desired. But please lets keep focus on decent projectors here and not complicate the situatiuon. These lights have not even been made. As a point of consideration here is a picture of Brabus tuned Mercedes-Benz G55 that I photographed in Europe. 200K and it is yours. Check the lights. I would assume Brabus would not place mediocre parts on their cars/trucks. Nothing else but Hella 90mm units. All six of them per side....

Barry,
I see your other post that you are gonna use some other lights for your car. I'm assuming that you are still making these. If you are then I wanted to thank you again for your dedication to the mx-3 community. I am looking forward to when they are finished and I can tell the difference between the black road, the side of the highway, and the sky on those dark rainy nights.
Evan

Barry Thank you,
I am so glad that you got Hella H9's. Thank you, Thank you. Hook them up, see the difference, post some pics of the beam on the wall (25' away), let all the people see the difference. Too bad you do not have crappy APC projector to compare and convince all of those that wanted cheap projectors. Can't wait to see the lights. I might even wait with my Bi-Xenon project.

so if the lights are the right size and dont blind everyone that drives by why dont u get dot approval that would bring in alot more buyers other than people who just want them for show good idea with the porsche lights cant wait to see em deff keep the turn signal outta the projector and the c/f is a good idea especially for those with c/f hoods it will go nicely

the hella H9's are DOT approved. Were not making the projector, just the housing.
Just an FYI, with the projectors/connectors/shipping it was ~ $130USD For 2, not all four. We may can buy them cheaper if we bought them in bulk, but I needed a set to make the prototype/mold.

Barry,
Take your time man. I have been working on my bi-xenon project already half a year.
Have you thought of getting a Hella Focus 90mm based kit and adapting it to MX. Similar curve of headlights. Well Hella would be too expensive, but there are cheap imitations on eBay, may be a try.
