help

Post by Ateana »

I poked the lock nut on the wheel hub so its not indented and bought a nice 1-1/4 ratchet bit with 1/2 - 3/8 ratchet adapter and attempted to take off the hub bolt. broke ratchet 1. went to home depot bought a huskey 1/2 inch ratchet and used a big *** pole on the end broke ratchet 2. now i have a 1/2 inch ratchet thing thats 2 feet long and no ratcheting action. it didnt break but the bolt isnt turning. umm any ideas. lol. im thinking torch to heat up the nut and try to get it off???? any suggestions and please dont ask why i want to take it off.the engine is coming out. and being replaced with something bigger

Try to get something in where you dented the bolt and try and pry it out. If you can bend as much of that bolt back out that you bent in you will prolly be able to loosen it. Lots of liquid wrench and man power! If that doesn't work you'll have to use a torch. I've had to torch one off so far. But that was the one that come with the car when I bought it.

2 ft bar is not enough. I personnally use a 6 ft bar with my wife standing on the breaks to keep it from turning. Of course you will have to be carfull not to break that 1/2" drive.
good luck

The force required is going to be different for everybody. depending on when and if the nuts were ever removed. Mine were removed by the dealer under warranty once and perhaps they used a heavy duty air gun to tighten them back up, not sure, I just know that some people get by with 2' but most need at least a 4' bar and I recomend just going straight to the 6' bar.

Buy this and your problems will be solved-

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=3994

I've had that set for 4+ years now and have done well over 20 cv joints with it. There is no way you'll break the breaker bar. I put a 6' pipe on mine and stand on it.

BTW- husky is garbage as far as I'm concerned.

Just go to sears and buy the real stuff. Craftsmen.

Or, you can spend mega $$ and get some Matco or something-- But my craftsmen stuff has never let me down and has a lifetime replacement gaurantee.
