This may sound crazy but cant you temporarily disable 1 or 2 of your cylinders somehow? I am sure they have some cylinder disabling kits on the internet or autozone (I think) and I doubt its hard.
Or why not just take it to a mechanic or something?

No. You'd have to disable individual fuel injectors, or else you'd be shooting raw fuel out the exhaust which would make things even worse. If I was to try anything, I'd see if there was an E85 station near you and go fill up the tank on E85, drive 10 miles to get the old fuel out of the lines and let the ECU adjust a little. Then retest on that and see if that helped. I don't have E85 stations in Vegas, but I'm prett sure California has a bunch.Originally posted by Juan's MX3:

Seriously, try to run with a tank full of E85. According to the tech papers, E85 reduces HC and NOx, which are exactly what you failed.

If you can't find an E85 station near you, see if you can get undiluted 100% ethanol and run that with a 50/50 mix of pump gas. Remember you probably have up to a gallon stuck in the fuel lines, so you'll probably need to go through 40 miles or so of driving on it until you're sure you're into the ethanol.

Crazie, can you tell me more about the Knock Sensor?
Were your readings anything like mine?

I'm not totally sure about knock sensor...and i forgot how my readings were. I say...go to GP Automotive at 5889 Stockton blvd. Sacramento, CA 95824 and tell them for some reason..your car isn't passing the ASM Emission Test.Originally posted by bobby:

So I'm looking at my Chitons manual, the knock sensor is in the book, but no picture or test explaination.
I looked online and found a page saying that the knock sensor was located between the intake manifold and the engine. k...
Can some1 tell me where its located at?
yo Crazie, thanks for the tip. that place is HELLA close to me. hit me up on aim sometime man,

Re: Failed SMOG 7times already, NEED HELP!!!!
I would try the E85. An EGR malfunction would cause the Check Engine light to come on after about 30 seconds on steady driving... (it still could be clogged though - but I personally doubt it) The knock sensor is a little sensor under the fuel rails with 2 wires on a K8 (your motor). I don't know anything about replacing it but TRY THE E85 FIRST! Also, go to the V6 FAQ to learn how to read your ECU error codes... That would tell you if the knock sensor wasn't working (the check engine light won't come on for it).

i dont have any check engine codes. I'm going to just drive around and see if the engine finds any codes.
I'm going to check out my egr and related parts today using the book. Also my cap n rotor.

K, im looking for the EGR valve(s), but im not sure exactly what it looks like.
I took 4 pics of my engine.
I'm thinking its the pair of valve looking things near the top.
TOP LEFT
<img src="http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/al ... .sized.jpg" alt=" - " />
TOP RIGHT
<img src="http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/al ... .sized.jpg" alt=" - " />
BOTTOM RIGHT

BOTTOM LEFT
<img src="http://www.reaction-image.net/albums/al ... .sized.jpg" alt=" - " />
When I started the engine, and rev'd it up, the valves would open too. thats a bad thing right?
Also where is the knock sensor? (which pic, and where..)

So I looked around the internet, and found this page:
http://www.geocities.com/ultimatemxsix/vacuum.html
<img src="http://www.geocities.com/ultimatemxsix/vac.jpg" alt=" - " />
would this be the same as the 1.8?
how would I check the egr if its below the intake manifold?
