you can run a setup like this and it will be fine, i noticed a gain going from stock air box to this on my KL-ZE, but might not be so noticeable on the K8, the gains of a CAI over this are nil really i think, this might still give better throttle responce than a CAI since there isnt a LONG tube for the air to run through, a K&N drop in filter would be a good upgrade

Ok, I'm willing to listen. You don't think it a problem sucking in hot air? Even when moving I can imagine a lot of heat coming through the radiator and condensor.

Obviously you think it a fair trade off, but what do you think better - the K&N or a cone? Personally it looks like I'm not gonna go for the whole CAI thing in the mudguard, but I could be swayed to a cone filter, especially if it sounds better.

If we're gonna answer this question for racemebaby, we might as well go all the way!

Your stock filter looks to be in great shape but the paper element is restrictive compared to a cold air intake(CAI)/cone style filter. If ya wanna avoid the hassle and expense of the CAI set up but still want a nice power band gain through the 2800-5000 RPM range, consider getting a K&N performance mesh filter that will drop right into your stock airbox. Cost is ~$50 USD and instructions come with the filter. Check out this link, it's the one for your 93 V6 model... http://www.knfilterchargers.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2083 If interested, click on the "where to buy" link at the top of the K&N link. G'luck.

Cone filter will increase the sound from the intake slightly and will give you a bit more oomph in the high end of your revs.

Replacing stock will help the high end a bit but not as much as it still goes through small piping. BUT it won't make as much sound.

It's a trade-off:

The K&N in the stock box will improve performance a little and retain cold air input.

The cone may improve performance a bit more, but will lose cold air input - I don't know that anyone's measured the overall result - it could be worse than the stock box with K&N, but I don't expect anyone with the cone to agree :)
Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
Extra thick soundproofing in the boot (trunk) to quieten my stainless steel exhaust system :)
