it couldn't hurt to replace both o2 sensors. But they are supposed to be disgusting looking. There is another way to test them I think.

Alright well it's been awhile since I've been albe to respond but I changed one of the o2 sensors (front side) and.... it DIDN'T HELP grrrr... nah jp but after that I thought I'd leave it up to a mechanic to diagnois it...funny thing was my next guess was the fuel pump and that was just what it was. So I guess now we know what the symtoms of a failing fuel pump are now. Thanks guys for tryin to help all of your advice was good just not right ;-) Thanks again

Sorry to cut in on this thread, but Wil, I have a question:

I looked up the part on the Autozone website, based on the partial part number you gave. Looks like it's 11152 for the O2 Sensor, here:

http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=C001&UserAction=performOemResultSet&Parameters=OXYGEN+SENSOR|~11152|~1

But this part seems to have been discontinued. If I look up the universal part for a '92 MX-3, it gives me a couple choices, but they are about $70 each.

Any idea where we can still find the universal O2 sensors cheap?

I thought it might have also been the throtle position sensor??? OH yeah, the Check Engine Light did NOT come on when I dissconnted it so this better reassures me :D :driver:
Dood stop being lazy and just replace them. Obviously the test proved that your O2's are to blame.

Use the universal ones like i described above tho..they work flawlessly and only take 1 minute extra to warm up on cold days. i've been using them for 6+ months now without issue. And they cost 1/4 as much as OEM replacements.

At the parts store, ask for an OEM replacement for a 90-94 Protege (doesn't matter which engine) they use the same one. I think the Bosch part number is 11x52...can't quite remember the middle number.

And when hookin it up, the BLUE WIRE on the 4-wire haress is the one you want to splice the single wire into. I just took my old O2's out....cut the harness off RIGHt where they meet the O2 and used the harness directly on the new O2's thing using a crimp connector and it hasn't failed yet.

Hey Hank...Well the o2 sensor I replaced was a bosch 11027 part number. They had given me that one because they said it was a universal for the 92 model protege engine like groharlem had said. They were almost exactly $18 like he had said too.

yeah, 11027 is the correct one...my bad. I was trying to remember it off the top of my head.

Just ask for a universal one from a 1.8 90-94 Protege (doesn't matter if its SOHC or DOHC)....its the same thing

Thought I might add that even after the $55 diagnosis and the $165 fuel pump... My car STILL runs like $hit. I'm so pissed-off at them for misdiagnosising my car. They had said my fuel pressure was nothing and that it was my fuel pump to blame. So I spent much of my time today replacing that and it still does the same thing. I'm goin back up there tommorow and given em a piece of my mind and have them look over it again. I guess I should have them replace whatever is needed that way if it wasn't needed then I'd given a big F U if they expected me to pay for it. Sorry for the anger but I have to let my steam out somewhere.

Thanks guys, I'm going to order some soon. Mine have never been replaced in 12 years, and I think it's about time.
