EGR Problem (code 16), cause of running rich?

Post by EddieWelsh »

ive had a CEL for a while now and ive got code 16, and code 9.

My car is running rich, (dark smoke from exhaust, bad gas mileage, exhaust smells strongly of fuel)
would the EGR have anything to do with this, if so where is it located and what might i be able to do to fix it, would a tune-up help?
Ive tried searching but all of the replies are from 2002 and the answers all say to refer to the online shop manual, which we all know is no longer around. Any help would be appreciated.

Code 9 is engine coolant temperature sensor, and that is, in my view, a more likely cause of your mixture problem.
Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
Extra thick soundproofing in the boot (trunk) to quieten my stainless steel exhaust system :)

A tune-up would defenately help. If you are running rich then you will burn up the spark plugs much faster than usual.

I got that code when it turned out being my Oxygen sensor. I replaced both and my car ran great and got 6mpg better than it did before (this is a klze btw)
