Problem: Oil on valve cover

Post by Chasing_Size »

Okay guys,

Here we go... recently I did a swap with gabi with a ms8 manifold onto my 03... there were a mix of problems that decided to come out of no where all at once... first one was.. on the way home after the swap, the car was running really ****ty, like some parts of the gas pedal had no go, and were stuttery, other parts were fine.. so we replaced the vaf, car runs like a dream... second problem was.. oil was ****ing spraying out of the seal between where the distrib connects to the valve cover... now... we fixed that and oil no longer leaks out of there.. but however, on the left side of my engine... oil is leaking like a siv now... oil is puddling up ontop of my valve cover.. and its covering the left side of my engine, including the fuel rals from the middle over to the left... on the right side of the engine its bone dry.. so, waht the **** could it be laeking out of now? i assume that we plugged up the one leak so all the preassure is going to the other side... i have no idea what the ****s wrong...

suggestions?

P.S: If i clean the oil up... rip it around the block (shifting at 6 grand) come back, theres oil already waiting for me to clean again ontop of the valve cover.....

change the little painted nozzle thingy you can buy those for like a couple bucks, that normally blows oil out

could be a bolt seal... when they go, oil can pool in the recess of the valve cover.

that'd be the one i was refering to.. though it should be pretty obvious if the grommet is failing

Just an update, opened my hood and ****ing oil EVERYWHERe on the left side of the engine, and it was dripping down below too like near the filter, could this be an excess of preassure build up or something?

oh yeh, everytime this happens, my dipstick seems to have been raised up... maybe by the preassure? i hae no idea, its only raise about 2 cm... but still , isnt that enough for oil to leak out?

Could be oil from your dipstick tube if the stick was out/high enough. Could also be the valve cover gasket leaking although you should be able to see evidence of a leak from the gasket by noting oil beneath that leaky gasket spot. Could be a bad front crankshaft seal allowing oil to leak. If you are well past the maintenance intervel for an oil change, could be a pinhole that has developed on the underside of your oil filter- I've seen that happen when a buddy went 14K between oil changes once and the oil corroded a tiny pinhole right thru the filter housing. Have you checked the oil filter for a leak-free fit? The oil leakage could be coming from around the oil filter gasket...

Could that cause oil to spill up and go inside the engine bay though?

By the way, this isnt just a little bit of oil... this is like a little under half a quart spilled on the left side of my engine bay... accross the hoses, near the dipstick, on the timing belt cover, half the fuel rail, and pooled under all 3 spark plugs on the valve cover..

I think the problem is somewhat fixed.. i think what was happening is when my hood was closing it was clamping some of the hoses too tight and the oil preassure was backfiring causing the dipstick to pop open along with a bunch of oil at high rpms.. im not positive.. but i think thats what did it, i re-did the hoses, and let the T hose that usually goes to the intake just dangle and exhaust its own fumes, because that was getting tangled too...

does anyone know of the last resort of the engine to exhaust preassure would be through the dipstick? because everytime this happened, the dipstick was popped up..
