Tradein my Mx3 with MX6?? Question??

Post by valoncan »

I have a 92 GS. My car's got a cold air intake and no other mods at all.
The engine is close to 200 000 km and it's running somewhat poorly, it's burning oil, and it lost power.
The suspension needs some work, like i think the ball joints, motor mounts, and front struts.
The driver door got a lotta rust, and the rear bumper is broken right on the side.
Now i got new clutch in it, new disty, new spark cables, new front rotors and bearings, new rear calipers, and new battery.
I mean I am still driving it, but am not very happy.
Now this dealer has this 93 MX6 v6. The car is fully loaded, it's got leather seats, a/c works (my car has no A/C at all), but it needs some work. It runs good, but it has 260 thousand km, it needs ball joints, axels, breaks, front windshield is cracked a bit, i think it needs motor mounts too (that is why probably the joints and all are gone), and i know the engine is not in a really good shape, when u take the oil cap off the engine shuts off (is that a really bad think, cus mine did that always), but it's better then mine, and OHHH YEAH lot faster than mine.
I mean this car has probably not been tuned up, and it just pulls man, i love it, now I know what yall mean when u go?: "once u go klze u never go back", fu** yeah man, just sweet sound, sweet acceleraton and that is why i was so excited.
The guy wants 4900 for it, and he is willing to trade me in, if i give 1500 on top. As is trade. We exchange the keyes and I give him $ 1500 dollars.
NOw my brother did not agree. He was saying that 1500 is a lot?
My car needs nothing to be safety, where as on Mx6 i need a lot of things to actually certify.
What you guys think. I mean what should I give him?

First off, thats a 626, not a mx-6. Its a family car, that doesnt handle and will not handle as well as a mx. It does not have a KLZE, but a KLDE, and alot of km's. I think you'd be better off spending the 1500 on fixing up your suspension with aftermarket parts, then saving for a KLZE swap. It will be a much nicer fun to drive car, compared to the boat that needs alot of work your talking about trading for.
Mods:
- ZE, Mike seli 214 intake cams, Ported n polished heads, Interprep valve springs, DE retainers, rebuilt bottom end, toga main and rod bearings, toga hv oil pump, CZT 67mm tb, mbx udp, ported intake mani, SS headers, 2.5inch full exhaust, racingbeat muffler, highflow cat, megasquirt v2.

new toy, 86 TII rx7, JDM S5 motor/turbo, + alot of other goodies

Oh! Why does it say Mx6 though?
Sorry man, I am just not to familiar with the Mx's and all.
But yeah that makes sense.
Also, I would need a lot more than just $ 1500 to actually make my car fun runnable, plus the engine.
But still compared to that 626, you right, better off fix mine up.
Thanks so much!!

taking off the oil cap while the car is running essentially eliminates all oil pressure therefore the car will shut down, it will do the samething with the dipstick, it happens on every car so dont worry :driver:
sold the mx-3 , bought 04 gtp comp g , from the smallest v6 to one of the biggest 3800 s/c FTW

The difference is night and day. If you ZE your mx-3 you'll blow that car off the street. Just think mid to high 14's in the 1/4 mile!!!! For that 1200 you got urself a ze
KL-ZE, Custom Intake, Apex Lowering Springs, and more to come this year.

id let mechanic check it out and see if its worth it, cause you dont wanna get stuck with something that youll have to spend thousands repairing later.

Well thanks for y'all answers, but my car is just not worth fixing. I mean I have a lot of stuff to put it in, it's not just an engine that I am worried about.
Also, I really like the MX6. I can probably get a decent one, fully loaded, and stuff with like 8000 grand Canadian. Just something for a change.
I like the shape of it.
So anyone interested on a 92 GS with 190,000 km??
I will make a website and post some info about the car, very soon.

MX-6 is sort of big brother to the MX-3. It's larger and heavier, but also has a larger engine if you are comparing v6 to v6. MUCH sportier than the 626 (which is a sedan style 'family' car). There's a lot to like about the MX-6's

If you would rather have the MX-6 than your MX-3 it's your call. Others might point out how far that same $1500 would go fixing up your existing ride.. On the other hand it's hard to retrofit stuff like AC and such if that's something you want to have in your ride.

Still I'd Do two things:
1) as others have suggested, have a mechanic look at it. Better to pay someone 30-60 bucks to have a GOOD look at it, and know what you are going to have to spend to make it drivable before you drop 1500 on the guy. Hey who knows, mechanic might give you some good reasons to bargan down that price a bit.

2) go to one of the online 'blue book' sites and compare the wholesale bluebook value of the two cars... is the difference between the two (given whatever work both cars need) more or less than the $1500 the dealer wants from you?
{sigh} Time to move on
