Hey folks, I think I'm finially going to get my poor 1992 MX-3GS up and running again. Since I have to replace a blown motor I figure I might as well go for broke and upgrade to a 2.5L instead of just replacing the 1.8L that it came with.
I live near seattle. Anyone know of any good sources nearby to get a motor? and for that matter a reliable place to have the work done? Will I be making things significantly harder if I get a newer (94 or later )engine, or do I need to find something 93 and earlier?

Yeah I've heard great things about them.. however given the sounds the motor is making, I don't think I should attempt to drive it that far.. heck just going 10 or 20 miles is going to be a stretch..
So getting down to Cork Sport would entail renting some kind of pickup or SUV (with towing capability) and a trailer..
Has anyone here heard (good or bad) about a place in Lynnwood called "Mazda Tech"? One of the wrecking yards hereabouts referred me to them.

You just want the engine..borrow a buddy and a pickup. No need for a trailer.
Pick up the engine, bring it back up, get a shop to install it in seattle.

Re: Best Source near SEA for KL (ZE or DE) engine?
go to Foreign Engines in Lynnwood - I got my KLZE there for $849 - it's been in now for over 15,000 miles - no oil burnt, no problems, mine even had new cam cover gaskets and a brand new timing belt already fitted - free delivery within 25 miles - 1 800 552 9889. If you go take a flashlight to look inside the cam covers, make sure the compression test is ok on the tag, and check the numbers match for a KLZe,
good luck

Thanks, I'll give them a shout. Say, who did you have install your KLZE for you? or did you do it yourself?

Re: Best Source near SEA for KL (ZE or DE) engine?
I did it with the help of a couple of friends + fault finding help from here!
Re: Best Source near SEA for KL (ZE or DE) engine?
Man I wish I knew some motorheads who wanted to help do this... I found a KL-DE engine for price I can't refuse (from a BC fellow who just put a ZE into his ProbeGT..
Since I'm more concerned with a reliable daily ride than being able to race vtechs, I think the domestic 2.5l motor will do me just fine..
Now the only problem is that the local mazda shop wants like $1200 to do the install. Corksport has quoted me considerably less, but I've no easy way to get the car down to them (since current engine is making BAD noises)..
wonder If I can find anyone in the area with a truck that would be interesting in towing my ride down... Hmmmm anyone want to go to Corksport?? I'll pay for the gas :>
