Oil in spark plug well

Post by Mr Mx »

Changing my spark plugs today and found oil in one of the rear spark plugs wells. Is this serious?? I think it could be the rocker cover leaking. If so is this a hard job to do??

I am doing my head gaskets in my GS and i have the same problem as you. Your problem might also be leaky valves or just the valve cover gasket. The Valve cover gasket is not too hard to change. The hard part is going to be getting the IM(GS) off without breaking anything. If you need some help/tips and you do have a GS PM me and ill try and help you out. Good luck with that.

leaky valves? how could leaking valves, which are interconnected to the combustion chamber cause oil to appear on top of the spark plugs?

The only thing this could be is your valve cover gasket. Replacing the rear one requires removal of your intake manifold which is a pita.

Leaky (worn) valve guides will allow exhaust gas to pressurise the camshaft chamber, which will help push the oil through the leaky gasket. Perhaps that was what the mechanic meant.
Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
Extra thick soundproofing in the boot (trunk) to quieten my stainless steel exhaust system :)
