Cost of diagnostics

Post by Bradmx32003 »

Hey all, im still having problems with my car, and the idle and power loss. Changed oxygen sensors and tried to tape of leaking hoses and such, but I have a question. Does anyone know what the accordian like hose is called? And also how much should I be looking to spend on a diagnostic to see whats wrong with my car? And also I have a coolant leak, the mechanic simple told me that it was the 'coolant hose'. Whatever that is supposed to mean! Anyway was wondering if its possible to replace my self, the hose is sort of behind and below the engine if that helps at all. Any help would be great thanks.

you can replace it if you have simple mechanics tool kit, diagnostic runs from $50 and up around here, but you can buy inexpensive diagnostic tool urself and see if it will bring any codes and then go on from there.

I didn't need a tool to check mine :confused2:
You just cross the TEN and GROUND post in the dianogistic box and count the CEL flashes.

It's cheap and easy

OK, Im back and i tried the diagnostic thing by myself. The codes I got are:

08- Volume air flow sensor
15- LHO2S inactivation error
16- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system
17- LHO2S inversion error
24- RHO2S inversion error
25- Fuel pressure regulator control solenoid

Thats an awful lot of gibberish to me. 15,17,24 seem to do with the oxygen sensors but I just replaced those, using the guide in the O2 sensor thread. Everything seemed to go ok, tho i accidently cut some wires but i just reconnected them.. and that SHOULNDT cause a problem but maybe it did? i dont see how tho... anywayz any ideas about what all this means?

Did you reset the ECU after fixing the O2 sensors?. Remove negative battery terminal for 10 mins. or so. Then check codes again.
It doesn't take much of a crack to have a small air leak in the intake hose for it to cause idle problems. Replace it with a CAI.
You might need an EGR valve.

Nope I didn't reset the ECU, didn't know I had to! But I will do that first thing tomorrow. If I had the cash I would but I was in a car accident a few weeks back and havn't been working... when I get the cash I will do that(buy a CAI or make my own) and do my brakes. But for now I will try resetting the ECU. About the EGR valve I will have to take a look and see what that is exactly haha. Thanks for the help man.
