Im new... I do own a 350hp GSX but now i have a mx-3!!!

Post by god_of_trash »

Hi guys.

I take part in forums such as honda-tech and DSM talk. my other cars are killer. but recently I added a mx3 to my collection as my girlfriend bought one. I do enjoy this car and do realize its going to need some work soon. it has 135 thousand miles! what im needing to know is when this engines goes should i just replace it with the same motor or upgrade to a better power house?
Ive been doing the reading and still it isnt clear as to what swaps will fit for what cost?

Also what mods have you people found cheap and worth while to increase performance...?

Also the car really runs strong but tomorrow im going to do the following:

Synthetic oil change with synthetic oil suppliment
Cold air intake made W/ K&N performance filter
radiator flush with MAX life fluid & super sealer
fuel system complete clean
91 octane w/104+ octane booster & techron cleaner

then im going to add some lightweight rims and better traction lighter tires...
have any redomendations?

Do you MX-3 guru's think there will be a noticeable performance gain after all of this?

thanks guys!!!

A good quality synthetic oil already has all the additives you need. Be aware that many oil additive manufacturers have been taken to court by the US Federal authorities for unfounded claims for their products.

Fuel: 91 is fine and needs no booster. See this thread

Preventative maintanance always helps. Wouldn't you already know this after owning a 350hp gsx?? Maybe you just wanted some more specifics...errr, or something??

Yes i own a gsx. but i was just wondering what you mx-3 dudes thought.considering know one proabably knows more about these lil kickers then ya'll.

its the 4 cylinder but i posted here cause i assume the 6 cylinder is the best swap. what swap will be a direct install with no special requirments? what is the rough cost if this swap?
any one have any info they could provide me?

and yes im reading alot on this car, especially alot of posts you all have thankfully done. :)

this is a great site. thanks guys!

well many people will tell you that selling your rs and buy a gs and then swap the klze in than swapping the ze in the rs...almost everything has to be change...

either 4cyl can be turbocharged. there is a kit available for the SOHC and Corksport www.corksport.com offers a manifold for the DOHC. You could also swap in a JDM 1.6l DOHC turbo which is very tuner friendly(m1 miata parts bolt on) or 2 variences of JDM 1.8l DOHC turbo motors. corksport offers all three of the afore mentioned motors as well as KL-ZE(the V6ers pride and joy), there is a FAQ by vaughn on the 4cyl to 6cyl swap: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/8175/4to6swap.htm
i think the turbo 4's might suite you better since you have experience in that realm.

if your thinking of changing to synthetic oil then you'll wanna change the oil again after the first 300-500 miles so you get all the old oil out. then once you do that, you cant ever ues normal oil inless you switch back totally. i use synthetic and love it, but always keep spare quarts of oil around.

Stick to 4 cylinders..

You have a Turbo Car, you know you love that feeling.. Get a BPT engine! And you can always boost it more, and beat a KL-ZE powered car..

You have a 93 SOCH engine.. you got the best base to go GT-X... As you won't need to change your harness.. You'll have to spliced it for the disty, and that's about it..

Welcome aboard! :)

first you should decide which upgrade you want then go with it. either a 4cyl or a 6 cyl and get the car with the one u want. if you already have a 4cyl its probably easier to keep it a 4. either way you choose you have potential to do great things. it all depends on how much dedication you have. and yes, this is a great site

I now have a GS and am planning on the ZE swap, but I used to have a RS until I got rear-ended by some illiterate redneck in his bubba truck...long story... Anyways, like most of the guys said, your best bet with the RS is to go with something like the 1.8 bp turbo swap. At at least 210-215 hp it's even more powerful than a stock ZE.

Good luck and welcome to the family.
