Rebuilt my K8, now won't start. I need this car quickly

Post by jasonbierschwale »

Hey guys!

I just rebuilt my K8 (spun a rod bearing) - what a nightmare! Anyway, I've got everything together and the car turns over, but it won't fart or anything. Here are the troubleshooting steps I have taken so far:

*Checked for spark - OK on all cylinders

*Poured a little gas in #2 & #3 cylinders - engine farted a couple of times

* Checked for fuel flow by disconnecting fuel lines from rails - the one closest to the bumper pumps gas when the engine is turned over. The one closest to the firewall (return?) does not.

*Checked firing order. I put the plug wires back on like I took them off. However, the Chiltons manual I have says a different firing order, and the dity cap has even a third firing order molded into it. Since I know it ran the way I had it, I put them back on that way.

*Pulled out a plug and sniffed for gas - none. Sniffed the exhaust pipe for gas - none. I have cranked on this thing for at least 5 minutes combined time. If it was spraying gas, I would smell it.

OK, so based on the above I feel like the injectors are not firing fuel into the cylinders. When I pull the injector relay and replace it, I hear a clicking close to the injector relay. The same when I pull the injector fuse in the engine bay and replace it. Does anyone have any experience with this? I need this car tonight, so fast answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

did you change the timing belt when you did the rebuild? If so are you sure it is on right?

Also try switching over the fuel lines it's easy to get them on the wrong way

you have you gas lines mix up the one to the front of the engine is the return and the one at the back is the feed. What is happening is the fuel is being stop buy the fuel pressure regulater. Change the hoses should start.
