Cold air intake from Integra 2000

Post by Street-Import »

Here is my custom CAI made out of a Integra 2000 intake. It works really good, and also its easy to make a custom hole under your fender to allow more cold air to get in. And one another good thing is the VAF stay horizontally. If you want more info about the setup email me at elektromaniak@hotmail.com

why do you want the vaf to stay horizontal?

its because the original location of the vaf is horizontal. And I talked to some peoples and they are saying that its better to leave it horizontal because it could affect the VAF sensor data. I just wanted to make sure not to mess up the air ratio.

Vertical, horizontal won't have much difference. Just imagine the forces from braking, turning, and accelerating. They would be pushing and pulling on it all the time in the stock location. Mazda didn't seem to think it was an issue. The way yours is when taking hard turns it will put forces on the air meter that might change the reading. I'm not saying your setup is bad- I actually really like it. Just that I think the meter orientation is way over rated.

that is true....my VAF sits vertical and no difference at all.

The reason the VAF should stay horizontal is because the plunger pushes back on a spring which measures the force acted upon the spring and relays the information to the ECU so that it knows the plunger position. When you have the VAF vertical or tilted then the forces of gravity come into play which can make it more difficult for the vacuum of the intake to pull back the plunger. If you have your VAF intake side pointing down, and then tilt it to level you can hear a difference in the intake at idle.

Creative idea Pat, I like it, but I can't use it. My MSD 6A is inside my fender well and I mounted my external coil where you have the coolant overflow tank.

Read my earlier post- turning, braking and accelerating all have the same effect. Since doing any of those things seems not to effect it, position dosn't matter.

Have you been dyno'd from an actual improvement compared to the PRM or Hotshot?
