Power steering pump?

pump making a hell of a racket went to dealer, said it was bad, bought a used one for $75 it sounds worse, went to Napa and bought rebuild for $160, supposed to put it in tommorrow, this sucks I am probably going to get double charged for labor 2.5 hrs x 2. Is it the pump cant believe two bad ones in a row, is the mechanic missing something help!

its probably your power steering line or rack..if you hear a droning noise, it means it isn't getting enough fluid to operate properly.<p>I recently replaced my pump with a new one from advance auto parts....taht POS was so loud and noisy, and then eventually stopped working. I just took it off and replaced it with one off a 626 that I bought for $12 from the junkyard, and now I don't have any problems or noises at all.<p>just beware of those crappy remanufactured ones

Is it something you think you can change by yourself? It'll save you some money...look in the online shop manual

it isn't too hard to change out....if your a n00b, it'll probably take you about 3-4 hours to change out for a new one. You basically remove the old pulley (17mm bolt), then remove the 3 12mm bolts holding on the pump to the tensioner bracket...then there is a 14mm holding the PS pump to the engine via a bracket.<p>after that, pull off the rubber hose, uplug the elec sensor, and remove the 17mm banjo bolt that holds the PS hose on.
