2.5L MX-3

Post by Balhirath »

I know this might sound like a strange question, but did Mazda ever produce a MX-3 somewhere in the world with the 2.5L V6 in it?<p>(Personally I haven't heard about it, but if they did I might have a chance to do a swap and keep the car legal :) )

They never made an MX-3 with a 2.5L engine from the factory. However, it is possible to swap in a 2.5L V6 from a Mazda MX-6, 626, or Ford Probe if you have those.

A very few MX-3's were swapped to the 2.5L KLDE in Canada by the dealership under warranty, because the KLDE is cheaper and easier to find...

I used to know alot about MX-3's, but not so much anymore. Oh well.

I'm sure it probably wouldn't have been factory sanctioned though, and not the loophole he is after!

Well I care and the insurence care, but you might have a point.
How exactly can you see what kinda engine it is?
Is there a K8 or KL stamped somewhere on them or what?
*grin* Ofcause if it really is difficult it also means that some of the engines on the various 'used auto parts' places might be KL engines. I know that some people here have installed them, but as it is illegal they would never tell the insurence or anybody else for that matter :)

Forget that question.. I found the answer :) <p>"you need to look on the heads. If it says K8 101 then it's a 1.8L. I don't know what the KL heads say, but I'm sure it says KL XXX. Just look between the intake runners and you'll see them on the rear head."

There is KL stamped on the block, but unless someone knows exactly what they are looking for, they wouldn't see any difference
