Rocker cover / head problems

Post by fabius_l »

I went to check my plugs because of an occassional misfire in one of the cylinder only to find it full of oil. could this just be a gasket or something more serious??

sounds like your valve cover gasket is leaking... can you see oil leaks outside the valve cover, going down onto the exhaust manifolds? If yes, than it's definitely the valve cover gasket

it is the valve cover gaskets. Not too serious but rather annoying. The misfire will be coming from the sparkplug wires because the oil destroys them over time. so drain the holes, clean/replace the plugs and replace the wires. Keep the holes as dry as possible by cleaning them out every odd month and get the cover gaskets fixed when you have time and money.

well, be careful when tightening those valve cover bolts, don't break them.
and it's a 92, right? the car is like 11 years old, so it's normal for that gasket to leak...

I just got my rocker cover gaskets replaced. It was only like C$150 for parts & labour for a certified Mazda mechanic to do it...
