2.0 or 2.5

Post by fabius_l »

I can't find a 2.5 here in Ireland but I've got some guys in Japan looking around with a shopping list I sent them they say it'll be about 1400 euro the thing is I was just offered a 1993 2.0 V6 mazda 626 for 650 euro so is the 2.5 worth the extra money or should I spend the cash elsewhere.

Someone else with a KF question, hmm...
I thought the 626 had a 2.0L 4cyl. See if you can get pictures of the engine or something, check on its condition. Either way the KL-ZE will still be putting out more power. But is it enough power per dollar, or euro in your case. Also ask yourself, does this other engine have a big aftermarket so that I can make up the HP with the money saved?

Looked at the car today 2.0 V6 looks the same as 1.8. Thing is big engines never caught on here due to HUGE insurance(cheapest quote for me was 5000 on a 1 litre third party fire and theft. But 1100 comp on 1.8 mx3 on a household policy), tax(450ish for 1.8) and petrol (0.84 a litre).
In other word I've a better chance of finding a 2.0 in this country than the 2.5, my daughter will probably be driving before I find a 2.5 she's three now. I HATE MY SODDING COUNTRY: crappy roads, weather breakers ........

One other thing it's cheaper the get stuff (exhausts and so on fabricated locally than buy them due to bad exchange rates for about the last as long as I can remember years.

Looks like the 2.0 is the better deal at 650.
Crappy roads, sounds like a lot of urban streets in the US.
Off topic, but are there many people over there with the last name of Cork?

Not 1 in the phone book anyway, just to give you an idea of how bad the roads I buckled a full set of 16's on a 182 celica running oversize profile tyres(thinking it might help not buckle them) at 25mph on one of the main streets in the city centre

Found a site which quotes:
K8, KF, KL 1884cc, 1995cc, and 2496cc respectively. 140, 160, 200 Hp (http://www.adelaidejap.com.au/mazda.htm). Assuming these are all ZE's, if the car you're offered is an export (i.e. Europe)model, its probably 150 hp. Is it worth the effort for 20 hp (unless you need a new engine anyway)?

Spend the extra time and money on a 2.5, the 2.0 has more differences than the 2.5, nothing you can't work around, but why put all the effort in when you can get a whole lot more horsepower from a 2.5, otherwise just bore out your K8, that's what i intend to do with my old one!
