low Car Idle

Post by pcperez83 »

Since i bought my MX-3 it has always had a low car idle. We adjusted the throttle and the car usually rests in park at 2000 rpms and then stays at 1000 after it's put into gear for a while, and then after about ten minutes the idle gets lower and lower and eventually as low as even 100! at times. What do i do? that i haven't already? is it the ECU?

I have had this problem before. It could be a number of things. It could be the distributor. God only knows how many of us have had a problem with that. It could be your spark plugs or your wire set or it could be your throttle plate. I had that problem once I replaced my distributor and I could not fix the damn thing. I worked on it for a week. Finally someone suggested reseting the ecm. You do that by taking the btu fuse out and holding the brake in for 5 seconds. Immediatly my car went to 3000 RPMs. I lowered it down and it worked great. I would try that first. It couldn't hurt. The btu fuse is under the hood. With all the other big fuses. If that doesn't work. Look at the above.

I'm having a low idle problem to. I have done everything that you guys had just mention. The only thing I found wrong with the car is her ICV (idle control valve) is sticking. I will be replacing it soon, but it's $300. If that helps I will tell you guys. Look in to it might help.

hey, ive been around garage quit a bit. and one day an old 323 or 626(not sure, it was a while ago) but it hade the same problem. The car ran great except it idle was really low at 100rpm. So the machinic took off all the air filter equiment so you could see the butterfly valve, started it up and sprayed some wd40 in there. The problem was that thers is a hole that lets the air in, when the valve was closed was full of dirt. So just take an old toothbush and clean it out.<P>hope it helps
