Twist, cracking sound over bump

Post by A.S. »

I hear a slow twisting/cracking sound from around the back hatch area when I go over a bump sideways. What could it be from?

maybe your rear speakers are rattling around? Or it could be the lift supporters on the trunk...

What do you mean by sideways? I know it sounds stupid but as soon as Iread it I got this picture in my head of a MX-3 powersliding over a speedbump.... I have the same prob but it sound more like it's coming from the front.

I mean, imagine turning into a driveway which is slightly uphill or going over a speed bump slowly on an angle, not straight head on. Kind of like this car(I-I) sppedbump (/).
like this I-I /.

it could be your shocks/struts..or maybe your exhaust hitting the ground

I get the same sound with my GS. I need to replace my CV joints anyway, if that solves the problem, I'll tell you.

Lucky for us the mx-3 front springs are warrantied for the life of the car. The bill was $480 canadian so I'm glad I didn't have to pay...but lately I've been noticing a similar sound in the rear, I hope it's not the same thing

This sounds like a previous post. I believe the solution was simply wrap the "U" shaped piece of metal of the trunk latch with electrician's tape. Don't quote me though, I haven't tried it yet! :D
