ENGINE TROUBLE, NEED YOUR HELP

Post by Mradio »

HI GUYS, i have a problem. i was driving my mx3 today, and all of a sudden there was a popping sound in second gear, car lost power, and when I pulled over it stalled. I checked underneath and there was oil leaking around the filter area. I tried starting it back up, and there was banging noise in the engine. V6 has only 108k mi on it. Can it be broken piston, rod or something? Anyone had this problem? I think i'll need a new engine.
any help is appreciated.
thanks

unfortunately i don't have any warranty. I had a shop to take a look at it. There is no compression in the 1st cylinder. They say it's probably a broken piston or something. They said iam looking at around $600 for the job plus the parts. But i told them that i'd rather get a new engine-2.5. They quoted me $1200 with the engine delivered, and guaranteed that it will work. plus $800 to put it in. Sucks to be me Is that a good price? or should i look around?
BTW, anyone selling a 2.5 in Philadelphia, PA area?
thanks :(

That happened to me back in October when I was at the end of my 4th gear range, i ended up spending 5000 for a brand new motor right from the crate. Was lucky i was able to do the work myself, gonna rebuild the old motor for a spare.

Vlad, take a look on eBay. There's a short block and a complete engine on there. Check it out and see if it fits your budget.

Vlad, the auction is Item # 600199903 for a NEW 1.8L short block and it has a buy it now price fo $575 (starting bid is $500 but there is no reserve and no bids yet). The company is autopartauctions. I believe they liquidate excess dealer inventory. They also have a bare RH cylinder head starting at $150 with a buy it now price of $175.
