1994 Probe 2.5 liter Engine
1994 Probe 2.5 liter Engine
A salvage yard in my town just got a 94 probe GT in, it is Rear ended. Its not a KlZE motor though, would it still be worth getting? it has 93,000 miles on it also. It has a 5 speed trany on it, would I need to find a v-6 automatic or change everything over to maunal equipment. Its a pull apart style yard so Im hopeing he would sale it cheaper than the other type of yards.
Re: 1994 Probe 2.5 liter Engine
I was wanting to do the same with my car but i wan't to do it with a KLZE. if you do go through with it will you tell me how much it will cost and who you used to put the engine in so when i get enough money to do it i can go to someone with exp. on doing the engine swap on a mx-3.<P>Thanks Alot
92RedGS <BR>I'm Sorry, Officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in. Say aren't you the guy from the Village People?

its worth it as long as your not paying to much for the engine, the Ze is hard to find. just use your tranny get the VAF from the probe and get a 2.5 ECU <P>Good luck<P>------------------<BR>Clear White 2.5L GSR
Re: 1994 Probe 2.5 liter Engine
how does the 2.5 run with the 1.8 ecu running?
Re: 1994 Probe 2.5 liter Engine
I still havent heard the motor yet. Its just the regular 2.5 mazda motor not the KLze. What model car would I need to have the drive axles from? mine, or this probe or another source? Would I need to get a different engine cradel ( the one that holds the Front and rear tranny mounts) Or modify my original Cradel?

Re: 1994 Probe 2.5 liter Engine
The 1.8 ECU will run the 2.5 just the fuel curves are alittle different run better with the 2.5 ECU (only paid $100 for mine)<P>Use the tranny from the mx-3 the axles from the mx-3 motor mount are in the same place. its real eazy!!<BR>To look at the engine its hard to tell the difference, just bigger intake runners and a straighter neck for the TB<P>------------------<BR>Clear White 2.5L GSR

Is is the KL_03??? Does anyone know how to tell the diff. between a ZE or an 03?<P>------------------<BR>~'94 GS
Re: 1994 Probe 2.5 liter Engine
Well there is no way this could be a ZE. Its just a Probe GT some lady bought and probably drove around to help with mid life crisis. But wouldnt it be Awesome if it were! a KlZe in Oklahoma,
Re: 1994 Probe 2.5 liter Engine
Today I went by to hear it, It sounds smooth, and consistent. At the start it had some noise in the lifters ( or that area) but after the oil got up their it ran normal.<BR> The guy wants $650 for it and $50 core charge for mine. I dont plan on giving mine into him for $50 so Ill just eat the $50 and keep both engines. He wants $325 for the transmission. It is a 5 speed and I would need to keep in mind to get a new clutch, and timing belts, water pump and gaskets and thermostat. Will this turn out to be worth it or just stick with what I have? The car has like 93,000 miles on the engine and tranny. Thanks for your ear

Just use your tranny! I thought it was worth it a year ago when I did mine. you should get the vaf ecu timing belt gaskets ect<P>------------------<BR>Clear White 2.5L GSR
Re: 1994 Probe 2.5 liter Engine
"how does the 2.5 run with the 1.8 ecu running?"<BR>I have an MX3-91 2.5L KL03 with 2.5L VAF, Direct air Dragon airfilter, Remus exhaust, and still uses the 1.8L ECU, it seems to me that it runs a little rich, uses about 1L per 8,5-9 km with "normal" driving , so I'm shifting in the weekend to the 2.5 ECU.<BR>by the way, has anybody ever got an "go for it" from Mazda -official I mean, this swap is, HHMMM, you see, highly illegal in my country if you don't get an ok from the car company, <BR>May you all have GREEN LIGHTS ahead...
