ECU for a KLZE....
ECU for a KLZE....
What's up everyone!
Hey, this is my first post on this board -- I've been a long-time member of the e-groups list.
Anyway, I've just swapped a KLZE into my MX, and I need suggestions on what ECU upgrade I should perform.
Right now I'm running the 1.8L ECU, and my idle is quite erratic. Also, I feel I could gain a little more power from a properly-tuned chip.
I guess my options are to either get a 2.5L chip, have Corksport tune my existing chip for the ZE, or have a company like SuperChips burn me a custom chip. The KLZE-tuned chip from Corksport would set me back $400...
Also, what kind of power increases can I expect from having the right ECU/chip? Is is possible that my current ECU is limiting the power from the KLZE?
Thanks for any sugggestions!
------------------
Hank
'92 GSR
2.5L KL-ZE

I used to know alot about MX-3's, but not so much anymore. Oh well.

Re: ECU for a KLZE....
Thanks man!
Yeah, I figured CS just sent the ECU's away somewhere... just didn't know where.
I don't use ICQ at work anymore, because of the firewall
, but you should be able to catch me at home. I can't recall my # off hand, but I'll get it to you sometime.
Later!

quote:
Originally posted by David Coleman:
Corksport just sends their chips to E.L. Re: ECU for a KLZE....
dude dont do it
no chip will give you more than 5 HP unless you have a ZE VAF sensor.
if you dont have a ZE vaf get a 2.5 KL03 VAF and a 2.5 94 ECM.
I can send you a chip that has been dyno tested and it got 5hp at the wheels accross the entire RPM band.
You just need to de solder the old one and solder a 28 pin socket. I will even send you a socket.
I will also test this chip out on the 29th at the drag way.
Dont spend hundreds of dollars on generic chips - just not worth it.
Steve
------------------
All motor 176WHP Mx3 - Dyno test coming in April

Re: ECU for a KLZE....
Steve I have the KL03 does this chip work? 5whp would be great

Re: ECU for a KLZE....
Ahh, don't worry. I pretty much made the decision not to go with those companies.
But I wonder if I could source a ZE VAF... Maybe the place I got my engine from would be able to get it. He said he could pretty much get any J-Spec part.
I think I'll call my man up tomorrow.

I've already got a 2.5 KL03 VAF, remember? It's from a '94 Probe GT.
Steve, it would be great if you could send me a chip. I'd emailed you about that a couple days ago. I really appreciate the offer. I'll send you my shipping address, and any other info you might need via your email.
I'll probably also end up trying to find a '94 2.5 ECU so I can swap in and out, for testing when I hit the track.
Thanks again Steve.

Re: ECU for a KLZE....
Hey Hank I will email you off the list on Monday when I get back to my office
hey White Fish - yes this chip will work in your ECM
you have to de solder your old eprom and solder in a anew socket. Once thats done you can swap chips in a few minutes time.
The EPROMS are not in production yet but I have a few more to give away for around 25 dollars.
Steve
------------------
All motor 176WHP Mx3 - Dyno test coming in April

Re: ECU for a KLZE....
Let me clear this up. If you get the Corksport/E.L. Prototypes ECU to ZE specs it will give you about 8 wheel horse power. I've seen dyno proof of this. 3 different ECU's were used to get that data (back to back). And 8whp was the conclusion. I posted this data on Probetalk once to end an argument. The dyno slips have been taken of the net since so I can't do it again.
More info on that ECU upgrade-
Corksport obtained an actual computer from a KL_ZE powered car. Sent it to E.L. and had them make a program from that. I have figured it out mathmatically that buying that upgrade is actually a better $/hp ratio than buying the engine itself!
Well, that was for a Probe anyway. You guys with MX-3's are gaining ALOT more with the ZE engine than a Probe.
------------------
Mazda Powered 93SonicProbeGT
AIM:Benkrys
[This message has been edited by Sonic (edited July 16, 2001).]

Re: ECU for a KLZE....
Mr Sonic.
I just put my hands on a Jspec VAF sensor so I can finaly test my ZE ECM on the dyno.
This will be compared to the custom EPROM I have using the KL03 ECM and it will show you how much power can be gained from the different tables without toying with the VRIS points.
The 8 WHP is under a very narrow RPM band width. Its mostly due to the VRIS settings. I dont think its worth a few hundred dollars.
The ZE has its timing advanced and there are differences in the fuel maps to match the Jspec VAF sensor.
There is no real magic behind all this.
Steve
