Would I need a new battery/cap/alt ?

Post by anvil82 »

I am looking to get a Rockford Fosgate 551x amp.

I'll be using it in tri-mode.

70w x 2 (Front)

280w x 1 (Subwoofer)

The HU will power the rear speakers.

I have the 93 RS

I will not play it without the car on.

I only have a radar detector using power, other than that everything is stock. Sometimes I charge my phone too, but rarely.

Thanks.

You don't need to upgrade any of the power stuff. Just do a proper job grounding the amp, and you shouldn't have any dimming or other problems. That's pretty low power in the grand scheme of things.

I'm going to be doing about double that power in my system, and I don't plan on needing any electrical upgrades.

I ran a JBL 1200.1 back when my electrical system was stock. Only time I had any real dimmage problems was at a stop light at night the headlights would dim when it was cranked. But I tried to not drive with it cranked and I was always fine.

the easist way to get a kit run is when u go to bestbuy to get a head unit....& they are doing free installs on the head unit have them install an amp kit also u get the kit & the head unit for 50 bucks.....

a one farad cap wouldnt hurt, its not needed for what you are running but it will run a little better and take the load off the other parts ie battery. plus if you ever upgrade it will come in handy. i was running 2 amps at 900 watts each without anything, but now have a cap, lights dont dim anywhere like they used to.

i heard that a cap actually puts a load on the battery, it just helps for those quick power draw instances
