Component speakers vs. regular speakers

Whats the difference between component speaker set and just regular 6x9 speakers?? I want 6x9s in my hatch but I dont know what component speakers are. :o

components are separated 2/3way speakers. you get the woofer part and a separate tweeter piece. They come with a little filter box wich sends high freq to the tweeter and low/mid to the woofer. Something like that, but I'm sure someone else will be able to explain better.

to keep it simple, the component speakers have a speaker(mid and lower frequencies) and a tweeter(high frequencies). They also come w/ a crossover to distribute the frequencies to the proper drivers.<BR>6x9s and full range speakers can handle all of the notes w/out external crossovers...
