Which way to fire the sub?
Which way to fire the sub?
What would be the best direction to fire my single Elemental Designs e15a in a large ported enclosure? Up into the hatch?, towards the rear?

Re: Which way to fire the sub?

Re: Which way to fire the sub?
experiment and see which way works best. You can get good results from facing up, as well as straight back. What your trying to do is have little cancellation of the sound waves.
Re: Which way to fire the sub?
The best way to fire a sub is dependent on MANY diferent variables. If it's a ported box, make sure the ports fire the same way as the sub. I would just put it in a few different ways to see what sounds the best. Definatly do not fire them toward the cabin or your rear seat will reverb it backwards and cancel itself out. Keep the box as close to your rear seat as possible.

I have mine pointed toward the hatch. It directs all the sound along the hatch to the front of the car.

Re: Which way to fire the sub?
there is a guy on Team Sweeps(a VERY respectable car audio team), who has a gf w/ an MX-3. He has done a lot of testing on his gf's car do find out the loudest way to set up everything. Basically, its sub up, port towards the taillights. This is also known as a CRX box... I haven't turned my box around to see what the increase is yet, but he has a meter and has spent endless weekends just playing w/ her MX-3

Re: Which way to fire the sub?
i have 2 kicker comp. 12's and i have them pointed toward the rear. i have them in a sealed box and it sounds great.ive experimented and tried putting them towards the seat and it sounds like s---.i dont have the right box to point them in the direction of the hatch but in the future ill try it if everyone says it sounds good!

Re: Which way to fire the sub?
My question is, (and I have mine pointing up toward the hatch) Why would you want to fire them against something? In order to get sound to travel, you dont restrict the sound. Its like yelling with your hand over your mouth.
Re: Which way to fire the sub?
its like when u yell at someone and they cant hear u so u cup your hands on the sides of your mouth and yell it makes it louder... it makes the sounds travel in a less wide wave...

Re: Which way to fire the sub?
The cone is shaped to send sound out in all directions, covering it would muffle the sound. I have 2 12" subs runnign in parallel, and if I turn my head unit on 10, Bass on -3 it will turn my rearview mirror sideways. My box is 100% sealed (glued and screwed). Its also deep, its 100% of the back hatch. Each sub has its own sealed chamber as well.
Re: Which way to fire the sub?

Re: Which way to fire the sub?
by aiming the box back to the tail lights, you increase the length of the sound wave. this is a good thing
