lookin for speakers

Post by codene »

all right i just blew my subs(bazooka EL1204)again! my amp was at 45% and im pissed. anyways im going to go with diff subs this kind. i have a monoblock 600WRMS Bazooka amp and im looking for 2 12" subs that would hit nicely off this. i was thinking alpine type R's but tell me what you think. im only lookin to spen aropund $500 for both subs. also i know the front speakers are 5 1/4" but people have put 6 1/2" in there. i was gonna buy 2 way so what size and model would be the best. lookin to spend around 200 on them. also i was planning on not puttin anything in the rear since i got subs and theyll get drowned out anyways. good idea or no?

i have the same subs, sealed, with a 700wrms amp and i'm not blowing them, I believe they take 300rms per sub. You should have been just fine. If you liked the subs and wanna just replace them i'd recommend the chilpac, it will increase your rms to about 400. Then again.. i'm not sure if i trust having prestone in the trunk :)
on a side note 500 bucks and get you some serious subs if you're looking in the market. Places like crutchfield and circuit city currently have buy one get one free for subs.
[ April 09, 2002: Message edited by: Sonicxtacy02 ]

The bazooka chil pack used in there amps and speakers uses prestone antifreeze to cool the units so they can produce a more effective output.
RMS wattage is the wattage that is constantly produce music whereas peak power is used in small bursts
and technically you should be adjusting the gain on your amp just by ear. All amps should come with a recommended way to adjust their power. Mosts start the the gain all the way down, then turn your music up 75% of its max volume, then adjust the gain occordingly. After you do that is when you wanna fool with Crossovers, bass boosts and whatever else your amp controls.

You might want to get a 'sub-sonic filter'. If you have a bais in the system, or a lot of really low frequencies that might be what's killing your subs. Normally I would never use one, but if you keep blowing subs then I'd give it a shot. If you've got a multi meter, put it on DC, and check the amp output with the volume on your deck all the way down, you should read 0, if it's more than a quarter of a volt then you need to couple your system differently.
HTH
tk1138
