Re: Help with HEI mod- removing stock coil or disconnect strap
Hmm, have never heard of it note being supported on the 1994 GS the instructions specifically say 94 GS is included. I don't doubt that there are different distys potentially on these machines but it wn't work at all. What I have appears to be a slight variation on the disty as pictured. The differe...

Update - Thanks for Help with HEI mod wiring on 94 MX-3
Sorry to be an idiot but I am putting my MX-3 back on the road for the Winter. In april the disty gave out. I am following the HEI mod instructions that Gro Harlem did at Clubprotege. Car is a 1994 MX-3 GS. The issue is getting the internal coil out of the equation. I am okay with either removing or...

Re: 94 GS Starting problem - Distributor? HEI Advice?
When using the external coil, all you are doing is bypassing the disty. You are just using the disty to throw the spark to each plug wire. The 3 pin connector is connected to the ext. coil. Since this is being done, it does not need to be plugged into the disty. The coil and hei module are getting ...

Re: 94 GS Starting problem - Distributor? HEI Advice?
I ran into a problem with the 3 pin connector while i was doing the mod. I used an external coil. Currently i dont have the connector plugged in. I found out that it would start without it, so i just cut it off. She starts, and drives very well. Not sure if this helps. Tim I may go down the externa...

Re: 94 GS Starting problem - Distributor? HEI Advice?
Have you tested to see if you have spark? It could be your coil, not your ignitor. Thanks Barry. I have not tested spark yet. The intermittency and progressiveness of the issue made me think of the ignitor more than the coil, but Imay have misled myself. I may have to wait til the weekend to try. I...

Re: 94 GS Starting problem - Distributor? HEI Advice?
? that is still odd though that yours is wired that way...any help from custommx3? i would wire accordingly minus the way they are colored in your case i would still go by the schematic, i have seen in subarus that this happens as well as toyotas they "run out" of correctly colored wire o...

Help! with HEI install
I reported my starting/ cutting out issues in this post: http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=63926" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I proceeded on the HEI install - just the HEI, not the external coil. Things went okay until I went to connect: " the botto...

Help Wire colours? 94 GS Starting problem - Distributor?
I proceeded on the HEI install. (not the coil - maybe this summer). Biggest hassle seems to be mounting the thing. Things went okay until I went to connect " the bottom-most wire on the 3-wire distributor plug (solid red in color) to the "C" terminal on the HEI module " as per th...

Re: 94 GS Starting problem - Distributor?
I guess what I probably should have asked is: 1. Does this sound like it is the disty or ignition module? 2. If so would the HEI mod likely fix it (the simple version without adding an external coil) or do i need a new cap and rotor? 3. How much of a pain is this to DIY? Graded on a curve compared t...

94 GS Starting problem - Distributor? HEI Advice?
Car had not been driven for 12 days. Had about 2/3 of a tank of gas with some ethanol content. Was pretty cold while I was away. This morning she started fine. I drove about 2 minutes to the supermarket on my way to work. It stumbled a bit on the way. (I had the air hose replaced last year, it wasn'...

Re: Vortec Cyclone?
No, it doesn't do anything. I always wondered if the fact that the marketers called it Cyclone was a sly nudge. One of the suggested etymologies for the term cyclone was the greek word klykoma, referring to the coils of a snake or ...Snake Coils Say it fast three times Snake coils Snakecoils Snake O...

Hgh NO and Stumbling
I would not immediately suspect the cat. Given your description of symptoms I would check the air intake hose for cracks. Also check the spark plugs and if in any doubt, replace. I have to emissions test two cars, one my mx-3 and it has been an interesting experience here in Ontario where the tests ...

Thanks Pat I was worried that is was the distributor which I hear is a known weakness on these cars, but I likewise assumed that if it was missing a cylinder or something I would get a CEL. The CEL has always appeared to function as I have seen it and pulled codes for O2 sensors and Crank Position S...

Pat Yeah, I will get another ground cable. The one I got for the chassis ground is like a ribbon cable with about an inch and a half of slack. I have connected it to the terminal connector attached to the negative post. There is a fair amount of slack on that cable which is 4 gauge which is bolted t...
