Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

Hey thanks for the reply. Unfortunately i dont think that applies to my car cuz i happen to have an OBD2, but still good info if i ever end up with an older one of these cars. luckily i was in princess auto last week when they happened to be selling OBD2 scanners for 50$. i figured what the hell, il...

Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

well im on my 3rd tank of gas now. first was 3/4 tank of 87 left over from the P.O. , after about 100km on the highway it threw a CEL while pulling a decent hill - i speculated that maybe it was seeing some knock, and filled it with 94. unfortunately my friends scanner wouldnt link up with the cars ...

Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

well whatever it is, it pulls hard and i like it... probe clutch slips, as i was warned by you all that it would... but it will live for a while. first gear is almost irrelevant now, and it cruises at 3200rpm at 100kph... not so good for mileage i dont think. Hopefully i can line up some taller rims...

Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

this seems to contradict the info i quoted in the last post - can anyone definitively say which post is correct? How to tell a KLZE from a KLDE: KLZE will have: -KL31 xxx marked on the heads -KL01 or KL31 stamped on the camshafts [KL01 for ZE's from Millenias, and KL31 for ZE's from MX-6's] -Square ...

Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

well i got back with the motor a little later than i had hoped, but its mine... i'm a bit worried that it isnt a true ZE after re-reading this - "The heads should read KL31-101 and/or KL31-1A1 http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a389/ ... 31-101.jpg keep in mind some Millena engines have these he...

Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

ahh i see. I ended up sticking with popping the ball joint only on the advice of my mechanic friend, since it doesnt affect the alignment that way. it was a bit of a pain to get them free but not bad really. The k8 is now out, and im headed out to pick up the KLZE :froggie_red: . i wish this forum h...

Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

i wanted to get the pump off, so i could leave it behind with the car instead of disconnecting the lines, but i remember the pump is shot anyway... so it'll have so come out now or after. The PS is pretty awkward, best to go over the top IMO. You have to remove the actual pump from the bracket, then...

Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

ok got started getting the K8 out today, put in about 5 hrs before it got dark. got all the plastic off, removed hood, unplugged and labelled the harness, removed fuel lines, removed exhaust, removed battery, undid heater core lines, etc. I think I have 2 things left. deal with the power steering - ...

Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

This swap is one of the easiest for sure. If you go ZE then simply use a KL02 VAF from a Probe, MX6 or 626 instead of the stock JE50. Curved neck intake is the most popular but you can use a straight one as well. Here's a link to the O2 sensors you'll need, use new ones for sure. http://www.mx-3.co...

Re: Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

so thats 2 votes for the junkyard KLDE. definitely cheaper, but a roll of the dice as far as engine reliability goes.. Try finding a damaged MX-6/626/Probe with a decent 2.5L engine in it. That's one option. I would definitely say you should go with the DE swap. You will need the following: Timing b...

Making a list for K8 To KLZE swap

hi everyone I'm sure this has been covered many times, but at the risk of getting flamed, im going to ask some tired questions, haha. I have recently picked up a '96 MX-3 GS with a 5spd . It has 160 000km and a blown up K8 - i got it for 300$. http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/yy202/libtechsplit/MX...

Re: Probe trans, whats it good for?

the Probe GT transmission is pretty much the same thing as your K8 transmission. It will use the same axles, and has the same gearing. The MX-6/626 transmission has some taller gearing and is more desirable because of it. ok thank you. so if i pull the K8 with trans attached, then install the klze ...

Re: Probe trans, whats it good for?

thanks guys. would it be considered an upgrade over the original 5spd? or is it the same unit, basically. i would assume it is built to handle more power? and i'd have to source some probe axles? is that a hybrid axle that has to get made from both the old and new, or just use the probe axles as is.?
