IAC ?

Post by Josh »

So now that we have hit hot weather here in Washington mid 80's - 90's yeah that is hot for us... I have noticed that if I am in traffic or city driving my idle will jump to like 1200 - 1500 rpms. Now sometimes i can rev it or pull back on the peddle and it will drop back down to 700. My question do you think my IAC could be sticking? thats kind of what it acts like to me as if it is cold. IDK any thoughts?

Mine did that constantly, I have daily driven the car with it unplugged for over 15,000 miles without issue.

It has saved me a fair bit of money on gas during warmup time too.

Have you tried lubricating your throttle cable. Maybe try adjusting TPS

Josh are you using AC? I know the engine will idle higher if you have AC on.

The car will and should automatically adjust the idle if there are significant loads on the system, like A/C or if you have a large amount of accessories running (especially in the winter and at night withe the heater and lights on)

I've made around 30 posts describing my winter warmup procedure. Shifting is a PITA until around 5 minutes into a warmup.

Well, after playing with some things I think it may be due to a couple of things. 1 some things needed lubing and 2 I think that with the KL36 ECU it is just running too rich and fouling out the plugs at the 600 rpm idle I had it set at . it sounded good there. so I have popped up the idle a bit and seems to be doing better thus far, but have not sat in traffic yet. if this does not solve it I will clean the IAC. I will be throwing in some laser iridium plugs in next week when I change my IM. I will be driving in some traffic this afternoon so I will know if the idle change fixed anything.

on another note, got a bad batch of gas from a Safeway (i was in the sticks and needed fuel) got down to 1/4 tank and wouldent hardly stay running. I normally run shell premium. Who knows how old the plugs are, probably need changing anyways.
