Found a KLG4, I need info
At my local scrap yard, I found a 1999 mazda 626. I dont know how many KM are on it but, It might be a motor that overheated a few too many times. On the side, it says "drive in......Hot". I dont know what it means and they dont either haha.
My questions,
-On my mx-3 i just got that has a K8 in it, can I use the KLG4 intake manifold on the K8-DE and will it increase the power and so on??
-If I take the MAF off it, can I wire it to my K8 and will it work (my mx-3 is OBD I). I know that MAF's are better.
-What else is worth salvaging??

1) DE's gain a few HP from putting on a ZE intake, but last person I know who tried a DE intake on a K8 he said it didn't run rightmikeetown wrote:My questions,

2) MAF's are better, yes, but your ECU had to be designed to use it. Your ECU is setup for a VAF, and it probably won't work if you put anything else in there. Even look at people swapping between the JE50 and KL01 VAFs cause a difference on how a motor runs just based on the values they send back to the ECU. Your ECU probably doesn't know what at all to do with a MAF

Re: Found a KLG4, I need info
I have a g4 on my car but have not been able to do a real test on it yet. (mine is a klde with a g4) A plus to the G4 is that it-in conjunction with the front valve cover-eliminate vacuum lines. I would keep the Je50 as long as you are using the k8 ecu. I speculate the TB would probably give you some additional power.
We all want to be fast and look cool. Cool changes but fast never does.

A maf sensor can be used but its a pretty intense swap, if your up to it heres a guide:
http://forums.probetalk.com/showthread. ... conversion
Also Im not sure if it can be done on an obd1 car.

Re: Found a KLG4, I need info
Ohhhh! Well that's new, well not really, looks like it's been over a year now. Well that's not just a MAF conversion to the stock ECU, that's changing the whole engine management system to a Millenia ODBII system that uses a MAF. My statement about the MAF not working with the Mx-3 ECU still stands.Sleeper6 wrote:A maf sensor can be used but its a pretty intense swap, if your up to it heres a guide:

1. this is obd2 only. the obd1 millenia did not come with a maf
Well that solves that one, lol!mikeetown wrote:my mx-3 is OBD I

Re: Found a KLG4, I need info
Well to be fair it will work, it's just more work than most would do. I personally wouldn't do it, but the entire G4 may be worthwhile. Define "may have overheated a few times" though... before you buy it.

Re: Found a KLG4, I need info
its 130$.
Ya, I am definately going to ask people there if they know what the writing means. If it has under 150,000km and isn't an overheated engine I'm going to buy it.

Re: Found a KLG4, I need info
Keep your VAF and ECU, port match your DE to the KLG4.
Here's some useless info I found time consuming. http://www.mazda626.net/topic/37114-kld ... ge__st__45

Re: Found a KLG4, I need info
You can definitely use the KLG4 intake without porting K8 or DE heads. The KLG4 intake has oval opening where it attaches to the cylinder heads. I have KLG4 intake on a KLDE with bored out DE throttle body, DE VAF and DE ECU. My car runs great with smooth idle and good power. I can't confirm increased power over the straight DE intake and TB, but I didn't lose any power and enjoyed making the modification.
