De swap question

Post by MX-3zoom »

It's been so long since i've been on, not so much over time this month. So i've gotten around to finishing up my De swap. My question is I will no longer be running Ac or power steering, so what do I do with the hoses, cut them and plug them at the fire wall? I will get around to buying a manual steering rack. What should i do with the sensors as well? Like the AC fuses/relays in the top left of the engine bay( the four box fuse things), and those that run and connect along side the left of the motor. It's just a weekend car, so away with ac and power steering, just not sure what to do with the hoses and wires. Help and comments would be awesome, thanks.

As far as the fuses go why not just unplug them? Driving without the power steering if you keep the original rack is going to be awful.

You SHOULD have taken care of all of that before you put the new block in.

Now its just hard. Leave the PS connected for now, thats the easiest option. When you have time, pulll the motor again, pull the rack, depower it (my WL, or clubprotege), or find a manual rack. Then remove the compressor and all the lines, condenser, etc etc.
Now with Moderator power!

You can't just remove the power steering pump because the pulley is required to tension the water pump drive belt. Other guys have gutted the pump and just left the bracket and pulley installed. As for the A/C you can just remove everything under the dash and right through the engine compartment. You just have to get a shorter alternator drive belt made for a car with no A/C.

Ryan's right you should've swapped in a manual rack (323, escort) before the engine went in.
With that said: If you want to lose the power steering another option is just draining the PS fluid. I've done this on several mx3s, its the easiest way to lose power steering & it won't throw a CEL. If you are too weak parking lots won't be your friend & forget about having a small gf drive your car for you if you've been drinking. If you still think you can 'handle it' (pun) You will notice the cornering & high speed driving will significantly tighten up. This isn't the right way to lose power steering but it works. Also you can SEARCH & look into power steering delete pulley on probetalk

I understand, I had to make sure the motor ran for warrenty. I can take it back out, wait I have to lol. Drove a Turbo 240 Datsun with no P/s and it wasn't easy. Thanks for the responses, now other question. What year 323 rack is required? I looked on the site, and found posts that talk about manual racks but didn't have a for sure year maybe model for the rack. Thanks again!
