my buddy was installing an amp for me and he told me he hooked the battery up to the car while it was on (yes stupid and i slapped him upside his head) and now the car doesnt even stay on! If i dont let it idle its good,so when im at stop lights i have to rev the gas a little so i dont stall out...i set the idle screw higher so i wouldnt have to do this because i need my car to get to work! It gets power so the battery is fine, I check the fuses and there good i even took it to my local ripoff mazda shop and no codes popped up and the cant find anything wrong with it they told me i was an idiot for setting the idle screw high and put it back where it was supposed to be and told me they did something with the ecu so it wont shut off and told me it was something with the ignition system but they were not 100% sure....I JUST replaced the distributor...could it be that again?
Now my grinding problem....While im in gear everything sounds fine but when im at stop lights in nuetral its a wierd noise sort of a grinding coming from the engine and no its not the HLA's ticking...I put it back in gear and drive off it goes away...any ideas?

No codes? Hard to say what might have happened but my guess is amp install just coincident with idle problems - unless I didn't read carefully. So back to idle basics - check and if necessary clean TB, test and set TPS closed position using multimeter, set the idle normal way - in diagnostics mode.
First thing that came to mind with grinding is a bad throw out bearing. The bearing always sets lightly on the pressure plate fingers and bad bearings will get noisy but noise will disappear as soon as you put your foot on the clutch - this presses the release bearing against the pressure plate. But I wouldn't jump to that terrible conclusion until you verify the noise is not one of the belt driven accessory - all have bearings that might make noise at idle rpm but disappear due to change in rpm or other noises masking the bearing / grinding noise.

The grinding noise is for sure not a belt and yeah mazda told me NO codes whatsoever..i mean this seems like a problem that would come up on the ecu...
Yeah bro i will clean the TB, test and set Tps and we will see where it goes from there...it just sucks because me and my car have been through so much (first car and had it for 6 years no) so i dont want to just let it be another mazda in the scrap yard....

Pull the inspection cover and have a listen for the throwout bearing would be my guess on the grinding noise.

Run the engine in neutral, press the clutch in and listen, release (still in neutral) and listen. Sleeper6 might be on to something with the clutch throwout bearing.
