Info on Best Spring/Strut combo
I'm looking for an up to date spring/strut combo that people are favouring lately.
I'm not looking for the lowest spring, I just want something that will sit with a little swagger yet have functionality as a good suspension.
I have already bought the rims. They are Fast Wheels "Blackhawk" in a 17", with a 205/40 tire.
My summer getaway is in the country with some nice curvy roads, so spirited driving will be had.
A lot of the info I find is a few years old understandably, so this is why i'm posting now.

Re: Info on Best Spring/Strut combo
I recently went with Eibach prolines and Tokico Blues. With new bellows, bumpstops, and camber wedges, was about $800 total using ebay and rockauto. 1.5" drop, higher damping force to match. I'm definitely happy with them and their performance on the autox course and street. I fit 205/45/16's in np, but people are slammed way lower and still manage to fit 17's in there.

Re: Info on Best Spring/Strut combo
I would recommend Eibach prolines with KYB's.
Eibachs are a softer more tolerable ride especially with the 17's. KYB's are the best aftermarket strut for the MX IMO next to Koni Red inserts.
If you want a little lower and stiffer ride. the H&R's would be the best spring to go with. But with 17's might be a little stiff

Re: Info on Best Spring/Strut combo
When I bought Johns car it had KYB GR2 Struts and B&G Springs (1.5" drop) with 17" rims, 205/40/17 and the ride is very nice. Stiff but with just the right amount of give for those crappy city streets. I would definitely replace with the same.

Re: Info on Best Spring/Strut combo
i just installed some kyb gr2's and h&r springs. ride is stiff but tolerable, im very happy with it so far. the struts are under dampened for my springs but its only really noticeable at high speeds.
im also running 205/40/17's...

Re: Info on Best Spring/Strut combo
I plan on buying 215/45/17. Better on the hwy and a little beefer looking. I honestly think the 205/40/17 even though the equivalent to stock in size look a little wimpy on 17" rims. I also think I'll have less issues with bottoming out because of ground clearance.

I'm running 215/45/17 on my G5. I love the ride and the look.. a 45 profile is a must on the roads here in Ottawa. If i get a chance to stop by Sunday you can see the tires on the G5

Re: Info on Best Spring/Strut combo
I just put H&Rs on with some basic sensatrac shocks. Feels great with only a bit of roll under high cornerspeeds but not really too much harsh feedback. So far Ive been limited by my tires (run 195/60/15) as i can hear them squealing before the car even feels like its going to give/roll. Not to mention I got them cheaper than the Eibachs from corksport where-as everyone else wanted more for them.

Kidney killer: B+G or H&R springs with Koni Reds, riding on 205-40-17
Less body roll with the H&R's, but more understeer.

a man after my own hart
Now I will be running the GC's and I think that I am going to go from the 205-40-17 to 215-45-17's It is beefier as previously stated and wont be as harsh. it will help to fill the wheel gap as well.

Re: Info on Best Spring/Strut combo
I wanted to run a set of 215/45's on a front set only, after my tires wore out (My Kumho Mx's lasted about 2 years of racing and alot of milleage), not just for better traction, but wider fronts are suppose to help against understeer.Josh wrote:Now I will be running the GC's and I think that I am going to go from the 205-40-17 to 215-45-17's It is beefier as previously stated and wont be as harsh. it will help to fill the wheel gap as well.

Weird, with 60% of the power going to the rear, I just don't seem to have that issueNd4SpdSe wrote:I wanted to run a set of 215/45's on a front set only, after my tires wore out (My Kumho Mx's lasted about 2 years of racing and alot of milleage), not just for better traction, but wider fronts are suppose to help against understeer.Josh wrote:Now I will be running the GC's and I think that I am going to go from the 205-40-17 to 215-45-17's It is beefier as previously stated and wont be as harsh. it will help to fill the wheel gap as well.

Eibach Pro kit with KYB struts. GR2 struts is what i use. amazing around corners. bumps r a little rough.
