questions about Adjustable Shocks

Post by mazdaspeed23 »

Hey guys i need some opinions. right now i have Tokico Shocks with Apex lowering springs. and the shock is leaking. I lost my receipt for my shocks so Tokico wont help replace it even with a like time warrenty *thumbs down*. Anyways. I want to get a set of adjustable Shocks, but mazda dealer told me theres no other car thats compatable with the mx3 but they said i could Fit a set of Adjustable Shocks for a Mx-6 into the mx3 with some customization, Does anyone no how much work this is going to be?

That link is very informative!

If I was you I'd look for some protege or 323 shocks. As far as I know there are none made that are adjustable (unless you go full body coilovers). Look for tokico illumina ad kyb agx (not gr2).. Even ones for a mazdaspeed protege will work.

Probe/mx6/626 ones will work with some mods ya, but I would try the above suggestions first. Adjustable shocks aren't always as good as people think. A zx2 tokico setup would proly do well for you at a very good price (under 300)

So im probably better off just getting a Tokico Strut the same one i have, Hp Series, * the blues* i can get one for $80-105. and then picking up a set of springs that are 1.5inch drop instead of mine which are 1.7 drop.. i just want to raise the car up a little, the 1.7 is good if im on the right roads, but since i moved the roads are all shitty so i keep bottoming out. So i wanna go up just a bit more

I'm personally not a fan of the blues, but ya if you only need one get a new blue and look at some progressive springs like intrax or eibach or suspension techniques.

Apex is pretty old school with a large drop, I am not sure if they are linear or not but for a comfortable ride you want a progressive spring

I have the Apex ones right now, and yeh they are pretty old school. when you go over the smallest bumps you can feel it, so i def need some new springs that will allow more comfortable ride. My friend have a set of Eibach an he said they were the same way,. whats ur personal opinion Eibach or Intrax actually i think Tokico sells Springs too?

s--- thats huge... Your best option is to get rid of the 18s man, your ride must suck with those on.. I wouldnt blame the springs I would blame your huge rims and small tire.. Go to stock 15s or aftermarket 16's even 17s and you will notice a difference. I dont think swapping springs will be worth the cash if you are running donk rims

Well if you wanna raise it yea.. You will need a different spring..

Or just get a new car?

Uhhh, all the advice you've gotten is good.

Replace your blown strut, and go to a smaller wheel... Honestly, I'd be blown away if that didn't solve all your problems(save the ride height). I have a hard time on bad roads with stock ride height and 15"s, I don't want to imagine it with those... If you're dead set on the 18s, then at least look into adjustable suspension. Fine tune it so it doesn't jar your spine every time you go in/out of a driveway.

I have to say it, but my first thought was free willy. It really does make me think of a whale...
