Door locks?

Post by Conrad17 »

allright so when i bought my mx-3, like 2 years ago, the genius i bought it from removed all the locks from the doors, and ghetto rigged a push button ignition, so my car can easily be stolen, i just bought a parts car, it has door locks, but no key, i cannot seem to find locks for the doors anywhere!! im wondering what i can do to secure my car. ive heard that i could bring in the lock itself to a locksmith and they may be able to tinker with it and make a key. but i do not know

any ideas?

When you buy new door lock cylinders from the factory they do not come configured for your key like new cars do nowadays. They have to send them to a locksmith to recode the cylinder to your existing key. It costs about $40-50 per cylinder up here.

Oh so true, and they still had a battery and fuel tank, guaranteed some would actually start right up too!

I broke my key once - dismantled the passenger door to pull the lock out. It has a code number that a locksmith can use to make a key for it from scratch. Cost me $5-10.
