Carbon Fiber hood doesn't seem to fit properly

Post by mazdags94 »

When installed, the hood is higher on the DS than the PS by about an inch. It's not hitting anything above the engine so idk...

Carbon fiber won't warp will it? I'm also considering shimming one side of hinges (PS) to put more force on the DS.

Anyone have this issue or have any thoughts? I also thought that hood pins (I'll need 'em anyways) would hold it down.

Thanks in advance

It's probably hitting/bottoming out on the hood latch. That's what mine did. I removed mine and now I'm using hood pins. They are better for safety reason anyways.

Sounds like you got a bad hood. Ill come pick it up from you.
Took the bp+t out of the mx and swapped it into a 95 escort wagon. ;)

Mine has a hook for the hood bracket on the hood, unless that's what you are referring to...?

I do want/need hood pins either way, wouldn't trust a small piece of metal attached to carbon fiber. Thanks

Hood pins are safer than the latch hence the reason there used on race cars. If a latch goes out the hood flys up prob smashes the windshield if you on the highway it's a good chance you not gonna like the ending.
With pins you've got 2 points where it's secured one breaks you've got another to hold it.

Plus they look badass

You should really do it right and get the aero ones, I hate when you get that gawdy chrome on a nice cf hood.

I'm not a fan of chrome myself either for the pins. I love the black or carbon fiber look though. 90 bucks for pins is a bit steep for my budget but you get what you pay for. My car is actually up for sale now in the FS section.
