Yes.

How does that make it a ricer?
Ferraris, Lambos, etc. rev high, too..

I don't understand your argument. I can think of 5 logical, good reasons why its like this.

-making use of the powerband, making it responsive at highway speeds.
-most efficient running speed
-makes it a useful gear in races
-pleasant tone
-avoids engine damage caused by engine running with ignition too far advanced trying to make the power to move at highway speeds at low RPM's.

We should come to terms with the fact that a 1.8l will never be a torque monster, and therefore, will not drive or run like one.

You want to cruise at 500 RPM go buy a grain truck.

That's normal. That topic comes up once every several months...

It's typical for most high-reving cars. It puts the engine at where it has a good torque output for good fuel economy

High-revs does NOT mean poor fuel efficiency. It's about the load on the engine and how hard it has to work. If you want to get an idea on engine load and efficiency, install a vacuum gauge.

Ya, a rev limiter and a fuel cutoff

My engine experienced the same thing but unfortunately mine wasn't to fortunate...

Wait wait, back on topic.

Really, if you want a grain truck, I can get you a few leads. Thinking european, or domestic? What kinda tonnage are you looking at? tandem axle, or only a single? What sort of conditions are you going to be driving through? Will you be needed a military spec 10 wheel drive?

Actually no. It acted up odd then I re-fired it up but after I re-refired her up, she ran fine for about 2 days and I would say she ran the best she ever did during that time. It didn't totally fail, but I had an oil light on and it was running like it was running on 3 cylinders....literally. Once warmed up she just wanted to stall and wouldn't fire back up after a dozen minutes of cooling down. She got me to Toronto no problem, but I had to limp back

If you're going to drive 65mph on the highway in alberta you better have a ramp on your back. It's even more fun for 3 hours at 80mph.
