BPT swap not so far fetched

Post by djjuscuz »

So... I'm fairly new to the whole MX-3 world (just bought my 93 RS MT about a month ago) and I have been reading the forum non stop for the past 2 months. Like many out there, I have hopes of dropping a BP engine and going turbo, but I don't plan on doing this for at least another year, so I can save up the $$$.

However, I was browsing my local junkyard the other day and stumbled upon a 93 escort MT and jizzed my pants. I thought to myself, this swap could actually happen and not just be another unachieved goal I had hoped of accomplishing.

Couple of questions:

1) Does the milliage really affect the motor even though I'm planning on changing the internals (pistsons, valves, cams , etc...)?

2) I've read the wiring from going B6 to BP is pretty much plug and play, but really, how complicated is it for the average, non-mechanic/car enthusiast? Will I be able to do it on my own just by reading forums and manuals? (Plan on getting a lot of help from a mechanic cousin of mine). For those who have done the swap, how was your experience?

Regardless of how difficult it may seem right now... I'm feeling really excited. Hence, why I'm posting at 3am.

Cheers

if you are going to rape the escort of a few parts make sure you get everything that you need to get it installed in your car.

is yours rear drum brakes? I am told you can use the subframe from the rear and swap to read discs.. would be sweet.

Good luck with your build though!!

the egt track wide is more narrow than the mx-3 but you can always get a rear subframe with discs of another mx-3 anyways
