and thanks for all the help that i receive from everyone, this is by far one of the best sites that i found.

Hmmm, theres the b6t, bp from an escort/tracer, bp-t from the 323 familia? Would you prefer to stay naturally aspirated? Or plan on boosting?

Start with a 1.8L BP. Then, if you're power hungry, boost that badboy. Takes 12 PSI on a good tune on stock internals. (almost stock STI boost)

Also, boost parts are readily available (manifolds, and such) because it IS a boosted motor in other cars.

Don't buy it from an importer, just get a junker motor, and if you'd like, rebuild it. Would still be cheaper and you'd have a reliable motor.

^ What Ryan said

I'm doing the BP swap and Manual swap currently. So far I've paid:

$650- Engine (roughy. It was 500 and I had it shipped via. my dads business)
$300- Clutch/Flywheel
$120- Short Shifter/Linkage/BP Seals off an MX'er (Trevo)
$40 (I think)- BP ECU

I am waiting on:

MTX Pedal Assembly, lines, center console piece from Ryan (but will be paying around.. $50 + ship)
Corksport Stainless Clutch Line

And I am in the process of getting, or will be getting in the future:

Manual tranny (have to call junkyards)
Port/Polish
BP Wiring harness (to get rid of my auto harness.. don't want the plugs dangling, and don't want to cut them off).
Axle Shaft/Hubs
Gasket set
Possibly buying a set of rims and Shifter boot off Nd4
Walbro Fuel pump
New Timing Belt and serpentine belts
Water Pump
Oil Pump
New hoses (maybe... I will make judgement when I see how my hoses are when they are off)
Stainless brake lines
Turbo manifold, and all turbo parts (need to research info on boosting before I do this so I know what to get)
Better exhaust then what i have. (I need a resonator badly).

There is lots more that I am going to do, but in terms of the engine itself, I am most likely going to leave it stock internals. From what I've read (and as Ryan said) it can take 12 PSI with stock internals. So considering I only wanted to do around 8-12 PSI, that will be fine with me.

Oh yes i plan on boosting down the road, so that all helps out very much. i Noticed that you are doing a Manual swap aswell(dark_rider2k3). Would i have to get a newer tranny for mine, too? Im runnin with a Manual already, pretty sure i wouldnt need to get a newer one, but just to be on the safe side is that a good idea? tho i found no problems with the one i have now.

You could keep your stock trans for now if you just get a regular BP, but to boost it, you'll need to look for a g-series trans out of an escort gt to handle the extra power. Most transmissions for the b series mazda motors are interchangeable, just use the flywheel that matches that transmission and it will bolt up perfect. Since your car is a 93, it more than likely is a sohc, which is almost exactly the same as a BP harness, you'd just need to add 3 wires, or just get a bp harness and it will be plug and play. A BPT is good if you wanted to turn up the boost and get some more power without having to source all the parts you want, but if you just want a stock tune, you'd be better off buying a junk escort gt with a good 1.8 motor and trans, swap all the goodies in and save some money.
I paid $300 for my BP
$200 for the trans and axles
$50 for harness, ecu and vaf
$150 for my turbo manifold
$75 for my turbo and lines
$50 for rx7 injectors
$100 for intercooler and couplers
$75 for intercooler piping
$225 for megasquirt
So, $1225 for a full turbo BP vs. the $1900 BPT and you'll need to get the intercooler parts with a BPT too, so add about $200 to your budget for that.

Would the year of the Escort have to be 93'? or could a different year work?

91-96 escort gt, ideally not 91 since they had the small nose crank. Some protege lx's in the U.S. and protege gt's in Canada from 91-98 came with them too but you'd be better off going for an escort gt and finding a mazda valve cover because you are guaranteed to be getting a fwd g-series trans instead of awd.

sounds good, i was ebay, and some other auto locator type sites searching around last night for an escort gt, but there were a couple of years i wasnt sure about. now that i know what i should shoot for, this gives me plenty of time to research and what not. Im not planning on the swap till early next year, so ill probably ask a few more questions till then but the help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
