Need Help doing My 1.8L BPTGTR swap into my 93 MX3 1.6L SOHC

Post by rusty »

Could you guys give me some help with this swap. List of things i need to do the GTR BPT 1.8L engine into my 93 MX3 1.6L SOHC. Finally got my GTR engine after waiting over two years for Corksport to get me one. I got a G series transmission out of a 92 protege that had the DOHC engine. This is what I have on my shopping list so far

Flyin` Miata adjustable cam gear

Indigo GT underdriven Pulley

What else am i missing? That i am forgetting about or any commets on the items i'm looking at getting would help me out.

Thanks Rusty

I need axles and half shaft for my G series trany from a 92 Protege. Will the axles and half shaft work out of the V6 MX3?

You'll need the proper BP distributor, you should be able to find an escort GT one easy enough, if you try to use the 1.6 you'll throw a CEL code and the car will go into limp mode. Is the g series trans you have awd or just fwd? The axles and half shaft you can get out of an escort GT as well if it is a fwd trans, along with any other basic parts you might need since they have the same engines. Did you get the harness, ecu, and vaf with the engine? You also need a different passenger motor mount than the 1.6, one from the 1.8 sohc or the dohc will fit. There's a sticky on BP swaps, look through that and that will tell you anything else you need.

There's No ford escort GT in the wrecking yard around me. Thats why i asked if the V6 mazda intermediate shaft and mount will work with my 92 protege G series trany. Yes its the FWD trany. The distributor is in the BPT GTR engine will i be ok to use that one? I never got the harness. I have a GTX ECU though. Was under the impression i would be able to use my stock harness with some modifications?

so i need to find passenger side engine mount, the other mounts will work?
