Stupid fender bolts

Post by Mad Cow »

Well I seem to have the worst possible luck with this car, I tried taking off my passenger side fender, starting with the 3 bolts at the top. The heads on the front and rearmost ones snapped off with no effort. So I decided to try using a drill-type extractor, which, after some effort snapped off inside the bolt. What do I do now? I have 1 bolt just stuck with no head and 1 with an extractor stuck inside it.

dang that hard going, it's happened to me too. I used another extractor and got lucky, but damn that chunk off the first one was hard to drill through! After that...drill and tap oversize?

I guess so, but that would mean buying a tap set. :( Maybe I could use a dremel or something to cut the welds at the nut, break it off and weld a new one?

Yea yea, it so weird though, I never would've expected that sort of trouble with this car, there's next to no rust and I've never had any issues with nuts or bolts except some being stuck, but a breaker bar too care or that.
