yes

With out the res I was pushing 90dB on a dual 3inch tips. Bad idea. 4 inch tip is going to be pretty damn loud as is.

that is the same thing. I think the problem will be the 4inch tip and not the cat. I do not and will not have a cat on my car.

there has been much discussion on this topic in the past. I believe the 2 fav's are magnaflow and _________ dual tip, double wall nothing much bigger than 2.5inch. Trust me, if you ever plan on doing a drive over an hour you will not want the loud exhaust. I'm temped to go with the vibrant black series. Try searching on youtube for a specific brand/make.. it'll give you a good idea of what you like and what to avoid.

When I first got my mx-3...one of the first things I did was to put on a 2 inch crush bent cat-back piping with an Apexi N1 muffler. I still had the stock cat, but no resonator and it was loud! I was 18 at the time, and loved it  , but as RS said, on long trips it got annoying...somewhat  :D

Just because you have a B6 doesn't mean it can't sound good. Granted, it'll never be badass sounding, but it beats stock. If you like loud and barely tolerable, then by all means, get a "Fart Can". Its just personal preference. If you like it, then use it, its good enough, it gives you your desired outcome. Yes, a bigger engine may provide you with a more desired sound from the exhaust, but if its not what you want then don't bother with it.
As long as you're happy with the end result, that's all that really matters.

I have a 3.5 inch N1 muffler tip on mine and MAN is it loud. I have the silencer on and it's still amazing how much sound it puts out. It'll be gone soon, though (thankfully)

My car originally came with THE CANNON mounted on the rear. Well, when I bought it, that's what was installed.

It sounded great, that B6 really puts out a good sound... BUT. Oh oh oh, headaches. Don't go taking a pretty girl on a date and have her actually enjoy the trip!

i ended up with a flowmaster 60 series, 3 chamber muffler. I love the sound of it. It's deep, but mellow. If you insulate your car properly, it sounds prestigious outside, and quiet and smooth inside.
I combined it with a magnaflow high flow cat and a hushpower resonator and I am very happy with the result
