code 9

Post by anjin1982 »

ok so lately my check engine has been coming on....(mind you my car is stock minus the air filter)(92 sohc atx) and it seems like when it does my rpms drop a bit but then the light goes away and the rpms raise back up i pulled the code read as "9" not knowing clearly what that is ( book says either thermosensor or water sensor i changed the thermostat sensor on the thermostat housing my next step is the thermostat itself. When i went to autozone they pulled a massive book on codes and said it might be a "atmospheric sensor" although i doubt that cause under that part of the book it said rx-7 or something. My friend seems to think it could be a vacuum leak that causes it, which kinda makes sense cause i don't see how a coolant could affect the rpms to drop then raise...please help

P.s been awhile since i been on this site...feels good to be home!!! :love2:

The temperature sensor is located close to the #1 injector - it is a 2 pin connector (possibly green). The ECU adjusts timing based on the temperature readings.

It may not be the actual sensor, It could be a connection. Check for broken wires and such.

ok so after looking at everything i still cant seem to really understand this...the water thermo sensor is located on the thermostat housing correct? the wires look good (ie. no crack or corrosion clean connection) so im guessing that maybe the thermostat itself is causing the false readings to the ecu? Does this make sense to anyone? Oh another thing throwing me off is the connector is one pin not two.....am i looking at the right spot? please help and thanx to all...

I'm getting the same code after doing a BP swap. The gauge pegs itself on the hot side as soon as you turn the key. As far as I can tell there are two sensors? One in the thermosat housing and one in the head (below the thermostat housing but towards the front of the engine). Which one would be throwing the code?

There are 3 sensors - one on the housing and another close to it - those two are for the gauge and fan control and are both one wire. There is another close to the number 1 injector (top of the engine passenger side) - this one connects to the computer and is the culprit for the codes.

ok so update i found that thermo sensor by injector 1 replaced it reset the ecu via negative terminal brake blah blah blah turned on the car and the check engine light came on again after some more diggin around here ( love this site btw) i checked continuity for both wires that checked out good, when i read the voltage at the terminal where it meets the thermo-sensor it reads a constant 5v so according to the books the ecu is bad? cause it says should be 2.5 - .5 depending on temp of coolant. If it is the ecu (or hopefully i missed something) where could a find a ecu or a 92 sohc?? price??
