Valve stem seals DID I WRECK EM?

Post by Vanished »

OK so i got some felpro viton valve stem seals, and I'm like

"Well...here are two straws..how nifty"

SO I completely ignore the straws and ponder how to get them on. So i put the valve it...then put the seal on the valve, then pull the valve out and as it pulls out it seats...COOL

but wait. did i just wreck a dozen valve seals?

If so, please tell me...if not, please tell me!

You said you pulled the valve out and they seated, so then you must still have the heads off. You should be able to inspect them pretty well without trying to remove them. If they seated that easily then they must be fairly loose on the guides. You may be able to pull them off with a soft plier. Usually it takes a few light taps with a hammer and some sort of tool to seat them. Once they're in the guide I just lube up the valve stem and carefully push it up through the seal. Passing the valve through the seal won't necessarily damage it.

Can you post a good close up picture of what they look like after install? That might help.

Yah basically I know how to seat them (10mm socket and some light tapping) but basically what i want to know is did i damage them from putting the valve through it, and then pulling the valve out. thank you!

I doubt it. I assume you weren't rough with them. You would be able to see any obvious damage. The fact that they're Viton works for you. It's relatively sturdy.
