MZR engine swap?

Post by 94drumx3 »

Has anyone tried to swap in a MZR engine? Or does anyone know if it would be an easy swap, if it even fits, or if it would just be a lot of wasted money and time...it seems with that much hp it would be well worth the money and time invested tho.
Also, where could you get one?

consider the cost vs the cost of doing a 1.8t... Your not likely to find a mzr for cheap

I'd say it's worth it if you can find a wrecked speed3 or speed6. It would be awesome to have a modern engine in the MX-3.

Exactly! i was wondering if anyone had tried one. i see everyone with the bp/bpt and was curious as to whether or not anyone had tried the new engines there. plus with it being a newer sporty-er engine they're bound to make a lot more performance parts.
...I take it drum's is asking about the speed3/6 disi turbo version.
YES! i was talking about the mazdaspeeds 3 and/or 6 turbo'd versions. i forgot to clarify what i was asking, thanks.

so would this mean i would get to be the first to do it!?! haha i'm having enough problems saving up for a bp but maybe after a year or so i might swap out again...although i'm sure someone else will get credit for being first haha.

I"m sure speed3's and speed6's are getting wrecked all the time. You just have to figure out where they go. It'll still cost you $2500-3500 for the engine and all the electrical. And you'll have to fabricate everything.

Its just money right.

I betcha it'll cost almost $10k for what you need. Engine, electrical, plus you'll need the tranny.

I was thinking the exact opposite. Power per displacement of engines really hasn't gone up in the last 10 years (which it usually does) because emission controls continue to mount. I've seen these engines up close and the amount of electronics is enough to make an old engine builder throw up. The cars are nearly impossible to work on since any minor change and the thing throws a fit. Even if you went through the headache of getting the engine in, getting it boosted and running would be even more of a headache. If you want more power get a bp and boost it.

ok so i was mistaken we actually have 20 salvage yards here in wichita, and a grand total of ZERO knew what a mazdaspeed was.
they were all absolutely clueless, so i'll have to try a bigger city.

i'm not real big on the electrical "stuff" - technical term. haha

whoa...10K!! um...i change my mind then. i'll stick with the bp.
